Eh, someone just asked him about it in that thread and he hasnt responded yet. He did say in the thread about Riley Ferguson that taking two wasnt something that was predetermined when someone asked if we would take Bateman or Ferguson. He said all of that would shake out when they throw in June and that the first one Bama lands would have to be ok with taking 2 QB's.

How much do you think we change our system year to year for the avaible players.
For instance like this year. With maybe a better third safety than a third corner do you think we go dime ( if thats what it is called) more than nickel.
Another question what affect would a really big jack like Nkemiche have on the rest of the alignment?
I'd like to see who ends where on the CB depth chart 1st. Susnseri has worked a lot at STAR and MONEY, the former being interesting as it has been manned by Castille, Arenas, and Menzie, all CBs. So it could be possible Susneri slides down to STAR and HCD replace him at Safety with Lester in certain formations.
I think a "big" JACK is what Saban prefers, it they just haven't been as big AND tall as Nkemdiche could be there. Upshaw, Dickson, and Anderson are all really stout players that were recruited there, built to withstand and deliver the punishment form the position.
What I want to know is, is if Hubbard excels at SAM in term of coverage and sacks, is SAM still one of the 1st options to pull off the field in formation changes?

Ferguson was one of the 1st to come to mind if Bama were to somehow land 2. He sounds really interested in, although it's never easy to pull in 2 QBs in the same class. Maybe if one was from instate it would be easier.

All of staff on BOL and Bone seem to think Bateman will commit. Staff on BOL hardly ever make a "prediction" but you can tell with some of their phrasing when they think we will land someone and that's the way they are talking about Bateman.
Also, they posted a Top CB's Bama will Face article. Some LSU fans would not like that they said Mathieu was average in coverage

Much more so on offense than on defense.

no its still called nickel if we have 5 DBs. the 5th DB position might be played by a safety (sunseri or HCD) but it is still called nickel. dime would be 6 DBs.
for the most part the defense remains the same year to year. however, because the skill set of the players does vary, the coaching staff will favor different plays in the same situations. for instance, javier arenas was outstanding blitzing from the star position and the coaches loved to call that play when we wanted to get pressure on the QB. but when arenas left, we didnt have anyone who provided that same type of pass rush from that position. therefore the coaching staff tended to bring more pressure from up the middle to take advantage of the talent at linebacker.
saban asks the same thing of his players year to year. he teaches the same technique and the same scheme. but each year they are gonna do the things they have does best, relative to the talent they have on the field.
this year IMO bama has a big strength at safety. i think they're gonna bring a lot of pressure from the secondary and dare teams to throw it deep. but I also think bama is loaded on the DL and they might not have to bring a lot of pressure. I guess if you put two and two together we should see a lot of Vinnie Sunseri sneaking in and knocking the hell out of people while the big DLine bullies the blockers.

i think there could be a whole lot of shuffling going on. If Hubbard is excelling, would you leave XD on the field over him? I dont think, unless XD is also excelling. Didnt Hubbard also play Jack and hasnt Lance Thompson said he favors the Sam and Jack being mirror images? I think Saban will put the best 11 guys on the field for each situation. But now the talent pool is so deep its harder to say who the best 11 in each situation. There is so much talent at DL, LB, and S i'll bet the coaches havent even got it figure out and they probably all have different ideas. There are probably 300 possibilities for personnel packages, all of which are capable of being good. It has got to be an awesome problem to have.

DAMN some of you are younger than I thought
LOTS of convo since I got on here last so I'll post a few of my thoughts:
1. congrats Sand on weight lost I have lost 45 myself down to 265 trying to get there lol
2. Lots of LSU "insiders" and I use that term loosely, we've learned how accurate they are with the LC saga, basically long story short there are staffers at LSU running their mouths about kids calling them "locks" etc and there is false hope on Williams since the kid goes to the HS he goes to, I feel as more Bama TRUE insiders on BOL etc also believe we have a LOT better shot at Williams than we do with Beckwith, LSU could land both, but it is gonna be a war for Williams, Bama currently leads.
3. I agree on Eric Reid, teams even cooled a bit on Morris because when you watched film on Claiborne Reid stood out to scouts as the glue of the secondary, I HOPE Tampa drafts him in the 1st next year
but yes I agree that he will likely be a 1st, Matheiu not so much
4. There are a few QBs and you can pretty much tell by guys more interested in Bama who has o problem with us landing 2 QBs, and yes Cooper Bateman will be in this Bama class and he is one who has no problems with another QB
5. Interesting discussion about 34 D for Bama vs Nickel/dime formations and the 2 guys who will give us the versatility are Jesse Williams (groomed this year for NG but athletic enough to play a 4 man DT) and Adrian Hubbard (Julius Peppers/Mario Williams athletic tall body type at Jack and DE gonna be a monster this year)
6. Sorry forgot this earlier lol LOVE Jurassic Park, changed SO MUCH in Special effects and locations in Cinema, I'm a film nerd like that though

Story on Jennings:
quote:
Anthony Jennings, three-star quarterback from Marietta, Ga., missed his junior season due to a knee injury. He was recently invited to the Elite 11 after a stellar performance at the tryouts in Buford, Ga. His offer list has increased since the event including one this week from the 2011 BCS National Champions.
“It’s a blessing to have the opportunity to go compete against the best in the country,” said Anthony Jennings after the selection to the Elite 11. “When I found out it was overwhelming. It’s just a blessing.
“I can’t give all the credit to myself. I have to give credit to the people who helped get me back to 100-percent. I tore my meniscus in my right knee the first game of the season.”
The University of Alabama extended an offer this week. The Tide is selective in their pursuit of signal callers.
“It’s a big time offer,” Jennings said. “They told me they have only offered five quarterbacks including me. They win championships. It’s a great SEC program. They always do things right. It’s possible I will visit this summer. I’ll have to talk to my parents."
Jennings has collected several scholarship offers from across the country. He has yet to trim a list of favorites.
“I have about 20-25 offers now,” he said. “Even before the Elite 11 I had about 16 offers. It’s really picked up since then. Nebraska offered today. UNC, West Virginia and Virginia Tech have also recently offered.
“I plan on taking some trips this summer. I don’t have anything set right now. I have to sit down with my parents and decide where we want to go. I don’t have any favorites right now. I am wide open.”

New 2014 offer:
quote:
It’s been a big week for La Porte (Texas) LB/DE Hoza Scott with the class of 2014 standout landing offers from Alabama and LSU in a matter of hours. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder’s offer from the Crimson Tide came in first and was delivered over the phone by head coach Nick Saban.
“Alabama told me that they were going to offer me a scholarship and my reaction was like, ‘wow the number one team in the nation is offering me a scholarship this early’,” said Scott. “Coach (Burton) Burns came by the school and I talked to Nick Saban. He’s a real cool coach to talk to and is easy to get along with it seems like. He really wants me to get out there this summer. I’m planning on (visiting Alabama).”
LSU came by La Porte shortly thereafter and wasted no time throwing their hat in the ring for the Lonestar defender.
“Coach (Thomas) McGaughey came to the school and said that he was going offer me a scholarship and how I’m a great football player. That offer was exciting, too.”
Alabama and LSU join new SEC West foe Texas A&M in the fight for the Houston area prospect, who grew up cheering for the Aggies despite his brothers Yusuf and Gainus playing their college ball at Arizona.
“I like that A&M has nice facilities- they have a nice workout room and they’re building another new one. I like the environment- it’s real nice and the people that are there are real nice and cool. I grew up cheering for A&M mostly, really.”
Scott has an early top group and says he hopes to have a decision soon after his junior season.
“I have a top six- Alabama, A&M, UT (Texas), LSU, California, and Florida. They’re all coming at me pretty hard. I might do it early to get all the stuff out of the way so I can just focus on football. It will probably be right after football next year.”
The future four-star prospect hopes to take visits to the four out-of-state programs that sit in his top six.
“I’m trying to go to Florida. My brother, Gainus, lives out there, so I could easily go there. I’m trying to go to California, but that might be hard. I’m also trying to go to LSU and Alabama. I’m looking to see if their graduation rate is, if their work ethic is good, and if they have one goal to be the best team in college.”

I wanted to do this a different way to try and realistically come up with how we could fill the spots of each position with the highest realistic prospect, since we only have 14 spots
QB - Cooper Bateman
RB - Alvin Kamara
WR - Robert Foster, would be a take, some say not likely Ryan Jenkins, also Jordan Cunningham could be a wildcard especially if we miss both of the other 2, but the leader is Jenkins
TE - McNeil
OT - Austin Gholson (Santa Marina is a back-up looks like at this point)
OG/OC - We would take Crowder but I think we are done at interior lineman
DT - Poggi
DE - Robert Nkemdiche
OLB - Johnathan Allen
MLB - Matthew Thomas
CB - Maurice Smith
S - Vonn Bell (I think we have a better shot at Connor, but Vonn ismlikely top on the list)
That is 11 leaving 3 more spots, so I would assume you want to add another DL
DeMarcus Walker
Maybe a QB
Riley Ferguson
And for the final spot could go anywhere maybe CB or LB? You tell me?

I assume you meant Robert Foster. That is a solid list. I think for those last 3 spots we will try to fill with another OL, a NG, and maybe a DB, unless we do end up with DeMarcus Walker or if we are able to flip Liner.

Damn yeah fixed it thanks for noticing I didnt
meant Robert Foster, TY really trying to wrap my head around how we will fit in just 14 more, gonna be CRUCIAL for guys to commit earliest they can if they want a spot

Highlights
I just watched all 14 minutes of Anthony Jennings' highlights. My impressions:
-He has a good arm on most of his throws, but when he sets his feet and follows through completely he can fricking sling it.
-His footwork is good for the most part, but he does at times get happy feet.
-He is very athletic and seems to have a good pocket awareness.
-His mechanics are good, not great. Like I said earlier, if he followed through on every throw he could be special. He does throw on the run a lot so it could be he just didn't think he had time to set his feet and throw it.
-He didn't take one snap from under center.
-He needs to add weight, but most high school players do, so his size doesn't bother me.
-I don't live in Georgia so I don't know what classification he plays in, but I did see a banner in the endzone of one of the highlights that said "Class A." If he plays in that small of a classification he probably doesn't go up against high quality players on a regular basis.
All in all, I like the kid. He won the Atlanta Elite 11 camp for a reason. I know a few of the mods on BOL and Andrew Bone have hinted that we make take two QBs in this class. If that is true I would like Cooper Bateman and Anthony Jennings.

TIFWIW but some poster on AJC said that a Bama coach filmed every rep Jennings took at a recent practice. 3 hours of video. Shows we're interested in him and we don't mess around when it comes to evaluating our QB prospects.

I see the staff and most of the posters have a pretty good feeling Cooper Bateman could be in the bag. Do most feel he is in the same class as a Max Browne or Hackenberg from this year?......Lotta folks wanted Keil...is he in the same class as him? Basically how big is the drop off from those aforementioned QB's is Bateman...if there is any?
Watched some film for the 1st time on him...kid has a huge arm....nice touch on his passes..moves well in the pocket...more athletic than I thought as a runner. Good command too...calling audibles and such. HS offense seems to be a little more wide open as opposed to what he might see at Bama, but if Saban and Nuss wanted to open it up....this is the kid I think they can do that with. Very impressed with him
...btw...who is #4 on that team...kid seemed to catch everything lol

I like Bateman over Browne. I still don't get the hype with Browne. I watched every highlight of his I could find, and he didn't impress me near as much as Bateman or Hackenberg.
I still think Hackenberg is the best QB in this class. Even though it chaps my arse to admit it.
I didn't think Keil was that great either. He played against extremely weak competition in Indiana and didn't have the "chest" when it came to the all-star game either.

Bateman does have a nice arm and good mechanics as well. He is thicker than Max Browne too. I too have a problem with the fact that he doesn't have much experience working from under Center, but coaching can fix that.

Just saw Max Browne's picture
he is an UGLY frick.
Thank God he can throw the football or he'd be a 40 year old virgin.

Austin Golson, four-star offensive tackle from Prattville High School in Ala., gave an early commitment to Florida State. That hasn’t stopped other schools from coast-to-coast from recruiting him. Andrew Bone has the latest news with the elite prospect who has seen numerous coaches stop by during spring evaluation.
"Spring practice is going well," said Austin Golson. "We have a scrimmage tomorrow. We have our jamboree game next week. So far everything is going well.
"We have a great offense. We just have some work to do on defense. I am just trying to never stop working. I am trying to get better in every aspect of the game. I am trying to help lead my team and win another state championship."
Several coaches have visited Prattville this spring including Florida State, Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Stanford and Tennessee. All the schools have offered a scholarship.
"I still plan on taking all of my official visits as long as Florida State doesn’t have a problem with it," said Golson. "I am probably going to visit a few places this summer. I want to get out to Stanford. I may visit Clemson and Mississippi State. Everyone wants me to come visit.
Golson, who decided to end the recruiting process early by pledging to the Seminoles in April of 2011, has remained a target for several schools.
"Alabama is coming at me pretty hard," he said. "Clemson, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee are recruiting me hard. USC is recruiting me. Stanford is coming after me big time. "
Golson isn't shaky on his decision to FSU and plans to visit Tallahassee next month.
"My commitment is still solid," he said. "They were the first to come watch me practice this spring. Coach Craig and coach Trickett came up to practice. Coach Trickett stayed the entire practice. I will definitely go down there in a few weeks. They are still on top by far."
