Nice to think about someone like Keil spending 3 or 4 years with Kragthorpe, but 5 star QB's are like young pitching phenoms - they don't pan out at a very high percentage.
If Krag's health holds up, young stud QB's will give LSU a second thought and that's nothing to sneeze at with LSU's history of turning out skill guys.

The thing you notice off the bat when you watch Kiel on film is how much of a timing driven read option offense he plays in and its wide open spread the closest comparison I can make is to Holgorsen O at WVU, so to me it is a lot harder to evals his talent than say a Jameis Winston or even Mettenberger when he was in HS and ran a much more traditional O with a solid run game etc.
I find it funny though this year that LSU might end up with the shotgun type pocket passer that usually goes to Bama and Bama will likely end up with the dual threat guy the type LSU has been known to sign, fwiw though I think Jameis is a much better passer at this point than any dual threat guys LSU or Bama has had for that matter in the past decade. He is a monster, took a perenially terrible HS team to the state Champ game, he is the real deal.

JC Shurburt just posted a Kiel update and it was only for Blue and Gold Illustrated.

Hell, I'll admit it. But I don't want a player who's family demanded we pull another kid's scholarship offer just so their son wouldn't have competition at his position. That's bush league pussy shite.

I agree with this 100%, but there's a strong chance Jameis goes the MLB route, which makes Kiel the better prospect IMO.
I think Winston is the number one player in the country, but you must have a coaching staff willing to take the risk. Hell, he may play college baseball for three years and turn pro during his redshirt sophomore year in football.
You never know with baseball talents like Winston. LSU has had their fair share, and honestly, I wish we would turn away players like Winston because they can absolutely do more harm to a program than good when they make a decision a week into fall camp to sign with an MLB team.

Checked around last night and this morning, and Gunner truly doesn't know where he wants to go yet. He's trying to make an informed decision, and he's keeping in touch with the coaching staffs at Notre Dame, LSU and Vanderbilt. He's not leading anyone on. I don't know when a final decision is going to come because Gunner doesn't. He is still working through things with his parents and family. Weighing all of his options. He's not picking what he wants for dinner or what he wants to do this weekend, he's picking a school. Anything you've read on any site about a pending commitment to one of these three schools is completely false. Those folks cannot be considered credible. Kiel is not planning an elaborate announcement. Once he knows where he's headed, he'll commit. As far as my gut feeling on where he's headed, I think ND and LSU are even at the top. However, that's my gut talking and balancing the facts as I've heard them. He's not a lock or lean to any school at this point.

We pulled Deangelo Benton's solely for another kid. Worked out well. His name is Rueban Randle.

Yea, because Chad Jones and Spencer Ware certainly brought a lot of negativity to LSU....no wait. There are fewer Z Lee's than you think.

I also am not a big fan of Kiel as a prospect and never have been aside from his mental preparation for the game. The analysts either see something I don't or they are really selling bs for a living. He's got talent for sure but he just doesn't impress me and I hate the comp he plays. I'll take him though because of the possibility that he's as good as the analysts say he is and because I like the qbs we already have.
The kid graduates early and qualifies to go to Vandy. The kid is smart and they say though he is not a true dual threat QB he moves in and out the pocket very well which means he will be able to run the option. On top of that he is deadly acurate which means that the short passing game LSU plays will be right up his ally. Maybe he won't pan out, but thats a pretty good start.
Still think we won't get him but it sure is nice being in the running. ND offensive coordinator Charley Molnar was the one recruiting him. With him leaveing for UMass it may be a plus for LSU or Vandy as well.

Why the Phuk would he want to play there? Does he like to get sacked?
