VOLS have an embarrassment of riches at QB. Can't blame these guys for lining up to throw at WRU.

Maybe if you keep whining about it they'll bump him.

Really good get Vols. You think there's any chance Lawrence is less likely to come to Tennessee because of this?

It's just generally really tough to get two QB's rated that highly to come in back to back classes (I know A&M did it, but y'all would be trying to pull that off in 3 straight classes which would be absurd).

I'm laughing too, man. So much QB talent in Knoxville for the foreseeable future.

I have no idea but everything I've heard is that he grew up a VOLS fan and his family is from Johnson City so hopefully he will head to UT.

You're right about the depth chart, though. Tennessee would not be very appealing if Lawrence wants to play early.

2017

4* Dormady (JR.)
4* Jones (RS SO.)
4* Gitmo (RS FR.)
5* Johnson (FR.)

Fair question.

I really don't think it matters to Lawrence. He's a competitor and loves Tennessee and idolizes Peyton Manning.

Will this make him think more? Sure. But I'd bet he knew HJ was likely coming to Tennessee.

With all that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if he drops us or commits to us. Hard to tell with kids nowadays.

We'll see.

Remember when that idiot lowspark said that Butch couldn't recruit QBs? Said Butch's future was all on Riley Ferguson.........what a jackass.

Glad you think so.

Bailey put on a fricking show last night. I have a feeling he will get some number 1 consideration before it's over. He made some NFL throws in the Mceachern opener and they blew Tucker out.

That being said, Lawrence is a good one.

Lawrence is Tennessee born. His parents are both from East, TN and are huge Vol fans. He is a huge Vol fan. He's very much leaning our way so we may just be able to pull it off.

We pulled it off with Jacob Eason followed by Bailey Hockman . I think the coaches just need to lay out a good plan and sell it to the QB

butch is one hell of a recruiter got a pro style qb to commit to a offense that sucked with pro styles back there until dobbs the dual guy came out and saved the season

and doesnt butch prefer dual guys?

but id be lying if said butch isnt building a title team roster im just not sure he's the guy that will win it with them if the vols are lucky they find a meyer after their zook if butch shits the bed again this yr

The offense sucked with pro style guys in Worley and Peterman because neither one of them was a SEC caliber QB. It was some shite recruiting prior to Butch that really put us in a hole.

They had a lot of success at Cincinnati with Zach Collaros and Brendon Kay. Both more pocket passers who had quick feet, but weren't true dual threats. They had quite a bit of success. We don't want or need Dobbs to run the ball as much as we were forced to last year. We're looking for guys with big arms who can pick up some quick yards with their feet from time to time. Butch has done a good job of recruiting both athletic quick twitch pro-style QBs with big arms (Dormady & Johnson) and Dual threat (Dobbs, Jones, Guarantano) He'll have plenty of options for the forsee able future.

I agree with you in that I'm not sure he will be another Fulmer or anything in the same ball park, but I truly think he will be successful here. He's been successfull every where he's been by year 3 in the program. I think this season will be telling on a multitude of things.

He is listed as a pro style QB, but he is very mobile outside of the pocket. These are the type guys Butch wants. Excellent pocket passers, but very mobile as well. Dormady from last years class is a good example

He runs a pro style offense he's a pro style qb. Martell is a dual threat and will fit well in that offense

I haven't seen the highlights. All I saw was that he went 5 for 12? Was he really that impressive only making 5 completions?

And y'all may have addressed this, and I'm not trying to take a shot at Johnson or diminish y'all landing him, but why are his stats so poor? He has a cannon, and I can see based of pure talent why he's rated so highly, but I feel like it's rare a #1 QB has 13 TDs and 12 interceptions heading into his junior year.

well peterman was pretty highly rated 4 star i believe

worley also i beileve wasnt a scrub

these hs qb's are a crap shoot 5 stars esp qb's theres been alot of bums that have transferred in rivals history but jamies and deshaun watson 2 recent have been beasts so thats good for you. says their getting better coming out but still crap shoot

but ill admit the way butch is stacking up you'll have atleast one good qb for sure

88 - 3*

85 - 3*

Pretty meh ratings by most standards. Both QBs were statues with terrible pocket presence and bad mobility(recruited to play in Jim Chaney's offense). Peterman really ended up being a bust while Worley had a few OK games. But for the most part they were round pegs trying to fit in a square hole.

I agree that QB recruiting can be a crap shoot. Dobbs is the only QB that Butch has recruited to play so far, but the talent is only getting better. True freshman Quentin Dormady is getting a lot of praise from the coaching staff as well. He's got a cannon for an arm, but isn't as mobile as Dobbs. He reminds me more of a Rich mans Bo Wallace. He can pick up the yards with his feet to keep the defense honest like Wallace could, but he's got a bigger arm and better velocity/mechanics.

Former UF recruit and 4* Sheriron Jones is running 3rd string QB.
