You should know better than anyone that the first choice when a legend retires is to try to hire someone with similar success. However, it never fails that great coaches are very hesitant to leave their current position to fill the shoes of a coach that had the success of Nick Saban.
How many times does the college's first choice for replacement also happen to be an uber successful alum who has long coveted the HC job at said school?
I know you guys need to hold onto hope here, but this won't be a normal coaching change situation.

They had a top 100 player agree to grey shirt...that's ridiculous

Learn from history.... That is NOT the case. No one wants to be the one that follows the man(Saban).
In fact, take a look at the coaching search after Bear Bryant retired.
The Hat won a national title at L6U with CNS's players. I think we'll be OK.

Top 100 to gray shirt. Just, damn.
Grudging respect your way.

That's not even an argument let alone a good one.
Miles was fired. LSU is/was in a state of rebuilding in terms of an effective offense.
Saban is never going to be fired. Bama isn't rebuilding, but reloading.
That said the fact that expectations would be through the roof for the coach following Saban, most will NOT throw their name into the hat. I'd bet the house on that. They might entertain an offer or a raise, but other than that I would bet Alabama ends up with a young up and coming coach, that could either do great or succumb to the burden of the expectations, rather than a proven NC winning HC. Then you are going to have the aspect of a coach wanting his program run his way. Others are still going to hung up on the "process" and all the success under it.
