Kids can do wildly irrational things, regardless of how their parents raise them. I wouldn't be so fast to take blame for their actions. The only way you could blame yourself as a parent would be if you were imply to your son that it was okay to do something like this to a woman. It could be from your actions or your words degrading women, or whatever. HOWEVER, if you NEVER did anything that would remotely qualify as leading to such behavior, you would be taking responsibilty for something you had absolutely no businesss doing so.
I firmly believe that there are circumstances where parents are to blame for the childs behavior, but I also believe the reverse is true. Sometimes a parent does everything "right" and their kid still goes and does something insane. I think you're assuming too much in this case, as there is no evidence that would support that his father or mother or upbringing in general would lead to such behavior.
Furthermore, even if you did have some developmental role in cultivating an environment where an action like this was okay, the kid would still have to be punished for justice to be served. In that case I would hope both the parent and the kid would be punished, if possible.

Oh no a football PR nightmare in May, whatever shall we do??
We should just give up playing football...
Tear down Neyland, melt down all trophies and burn all existing structures devoted to football because we signed a kid who did something bad when he was 13 y/o

Tuck, do you have children?

I just wanted to know whether you "get it" or not. If you have kids, you do.

I understand what you are saying. I'm just saying you can't make a blanket statement like that. Some kids just behave a certain way regardless of upbringing. It's sad when that happens.

I think if you teach a kid the right way to live... and reinforce it... normally they'll do ok. I really believe that the only way that hood stuff happens is when you either neglect a kid, or you don't spend the time to teach.
Other than that, it takes a mental disorder for that crap to happen. Just my opinion.

You think the Fulmer Cup will make an exception and retroactivly apply this infraction. If not, can someone speculate as to the points awarded for such a crime. I'm assuming standard rape points, but there would have to be bonus points awarded for using a plunger. Right???

You can't tell me that if you and other people thought it was wrong could not put pressure on the university to change this terrible decision..
The girl is never going to get over this being reminded over and over for years..
The UoT put her in this position..
Shame....

Now, to go and sign a kid that has this kind of past, when Tenn is already known for bad apples, is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen a Coaching staff and Univ Administration do.
I guess the checkerboard endzones do have a meaning.

Saint Paul was equal to the talibon, he was a murderer, then Jesus knocked him off a donkey, he went on to write 2/3s of the new testament

...What? Are you seriously bringing Saint Paul into this? What in the hell does Saint Paul have to do with any of this? I really love it how the fundamentalists spit out verses to justify their monstrosities.

He's getting a free ride to play football. Not ministering to lost souls. Bad comparison.

Have you been breathing too much swamp gas?
The Victim wrote a letter to the UT president saying...

Tennessee received a letter of support for Hood from the victim. "He is becoming a very mature adult and will be a great asset to any college and to society as a whole,” the letter read.

End of Story
There will not be an end to this story. So long as Tn takes an active role in rewarding kidnappers and rapists, it will be ongoing.

Having been in law enforcement in the past, I can recount numerous times going to a domestic disturbance where the female was beaten to a pulp, then turn around and get upset and almost violent because her bf/hubby was going to jail, it doesn't lessen what he did. Nice try to try and deflect though.
