I definitely agree about some of the architecture. Funky 70's and 80's style. The entire campus is getting completely made over in the next 20 years. Should look fantastic when finished.

Honestly Kyle Field needs to go full Wrap-a-Round. Kind of looks like an unfinished puzzle as it stands. Aren't they lobbying for endzone seating and if so ynot just go full tard and make the whole thing a bowl?

such a strange football stadium. Is the third tier seating as far away from the field as it looks?

Is Neyland really the shithole everybody makes it out to be?

No. It's just really old and has been added onto more than most stadiums. The field and renovated areas are top notch, and the luxury suites rival many NFL stadiums. What makes Neyland great is that it's two complete bowls so you can't see out. Makes the experience more intense (some would say claustrophobic). Most people who rip on it are just haters.

University of Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium

Before 1929, Bama's games were played on the Quad and on University Field. On September 28, 1929, The George Hutcheson Denny Stadium opened on the present site with a seating capacity of 12,000.

Another view of Denny Stadium through the 1930's.

The 1930's Denny Stadium was the field that Paul W. Bryant played on. And the players were responsible for mowing the grass on the field, including a young Paul Bryant.

Denny Stadium 1946, capacity 31,000 Bleachers are added in both endzones.

Paul Bryant returned to Alabama in 1958, Denny Stadium had remained untouched, but the legendary coach mapped out details for an additional 12,000 seats and a new press box with an elevator that was completed for the run to the national title in 1961.

In 1966 Bryant implemented an expansion of 17,000 seats, upping the capacity to 60,000. Both endzones were enclosed and adding to the east grandstand.

During the summer of 1975, Bert Bank, who had matured from a teenage fan to a World War II hero to a state senator, used his political clout to have the stadium re-named Bryant-Denny Stadium and on April 10, 1976, during the annual A-Day game, the official dedication took place.

1988 the addition of an upper grandstand on the west side, raising capacity to 70,123

1998 addition of the east upper deck raising capacity to 83,818.

In 2006 the North endzone renovation Bryant-Denny increased capacity to 92,138 making it the seventh-largest on-campus football stadium in the nation.

Then in 2010, 9,683 seats added by the construction of the upper grandstand on the south end zone, raising capacity to 101,821, fifth largest on campus stadium in the nation.

Alabama's AD Coach Mal Moore was the driving force behind the renovation of BD Stadium. He also want ed to improve the entrance, so he built a grand entrance with the Walk of Champions, which has plaques of all Bama's NC's with the coaches and players that played in that game. Also plaques of all the SEC championships. Two additional NC plaques, 2009 and 2011, have been added since the completion of the park in 2007.

Next to the Walk of Champions is the Walk of Coaches, where there are statues of all Alabama's coaches that has won a national championship; Coach Wade, Coach Thomas, Coach Bryant, Coach Stallings, and the newest addition Coach Saban who has won 2 NC's so far.

We don't yet know what's going to happen. Currently, Populous is exploring all design options, including plans for both a renovated Kyle Field and a new Kyle Field. Because, yes, the idea is to do exactly what you said, the decision has to be made whether or not it's worth trying to work in phases with the current Kyle Field, or if it makes more sense to demolish to the ground & rebuild the whole enchilada.

With the improvements, I actually like the exterior of the Tenn stadium a lot.

Would the design be completely different?

I don't think anyone knows yet. That's what's currently being explored.

Y'all have a lot of money but do y'all have that kind of money? We're talking 500 million ballpark I would think.

I guess Tennessee didn't think 10,000 open seats was enough so they just keep adding on

Really MSU? Really? You fill up 60k on a Thursday night against the top team in the country and you think you're in a position to troll Neyland? Dude gtfo.

Oh, massive funds will have to be raised, for sure. Since construction is set to begin as soon as the 2013 season is over, we'll probably know more soon. It's going to be a colossal project, regardless. Again, the decision now is whether or not to take multiple years re-working the current Kyle Field, or to play all of our home games in Houston for one year. No one wants that; but it's very much being discussed as an option.

Interesting. I would think it would take a lot longer than simply playing one year in Houston though.

You left out the part where demand isn't their to support a current expansion so you simply have renderings and a talking point about sellouts.
