Yeah, you really put a lot of thought into the whole rivalry issue. Whatever, I'm done with you.

That's a great setup, but I have a question: would that be allowed under current NCAA rules?

no. rules only allow for 1 game to decide a championship of 2 divisions of 6 or more teams.

you have it correct.

in your version, no teams in the west are east of teams in the east.

all teams in the west are west of teams in the east.

perfect. And Bama gets to play UTk.

this is the correct answer. pass it on to Slive.

I'm guessing UGA is in Division 1? I had AU in the east mainly because of the UGA-AU rivalry game. Which meant UA had to go east, too.

Honestly probably the happiest everybody is going to be about the divisions is the way it is set up now.

Geographically correct, but I'm wondering if leaving Vandy in the east, and moving UK to the west might make for better balance?

That wasn't part of the question.

I set it the way it would be most competitive, while also allowing rivalries to stay intact.

only problems i see is Alabama would lose some traditional rival that they have a long history w/ like LSU, MSU or OM.

everything changes. if you want to put it all in stone, we cant ever change anything. rivalries will grow.

And Tex A&M will be a football factor in the west. If they have the right coach, they will compete for championships.

(And the west will win track every year).

Well, I did think being possible under NCAA rules was a no-brainer. But I liked your setup, and who knows what the rules will be after this year?

Get away from trying to divide it geographically and break up the teams in each state. Permanent opponents in parenthesis.

Division 1
Alabama (Auburn)
Arkansas (South Carolina)
Kentucky (Georgia)
LSU (Florida)
TAMU (Mizzou)
Ole Miss (MS State)
Tennessee (Vanderbilt)

Division 2
Auburn (Alabama)
Florida (LSU)
Georgia (Kentucky)
MS State (Ole Miss)
South Carolina (Arkansas)
Mizzou (TAMU)
Vanderbilt (Tennessee)

I believe most traditional rivalries would be intact.

Yes, in that scenario i had uga over in division 1 just to have thr only four teams that were complaining about permanent rivals in the same divison.

But like my first post and what alahunter put up, i like adding two teams and having four divisions the best. And. Even though there might be ncaa rules against it, doesn't mean it cant be changed. Would be a great idea imo to the right path to somewhat of a playoff system.

Easy. Kid has to attend college in same state he graduated high school in. Instant parity.

Ok here is my issue with some of these suggestions (including mine): Both divisions have to be balanced, and at the same time allow rivalry games to continue.

To my mind, these five teams have to remain together:

1) Alabama
2) Auburn
3) Florida
4) Georgia
5) Tennessee

Each has two rivalry games with other teams on that list. The problem is, as has been pointed out, is that is five of the "traditional" powers in the SEC.

However, if you look at the current SEC standings, neither UF or UT are among the conference's strongest teams...at the moment.

Perhaps we should just ignore geography, and arrange divisions thusly:

SEC East

1) Alabama
2) Auburn
3) Florida
4) Georgia
5) Vanderbilt
6) Mississippi
7) Tennessee

SEC West

1) Arkansas
2) LSU
3) South Carolina
4) Mississippi State
5) Missouri
6) Texas A&M
7) Kentucky

Better top in the east, better middle and bottom in the west.
