Would these style protests happen today under MLK's leadership?

If he or someone with his ability to lead (a relatively intelligent person, not Sharpton or Jackson)--would there be progress made with truly peaceful protests?

Would they even happen at all with a good black leader to steer the people?

Thoughts?

Before yesterday, which protesting style would you prefer them use?

I think Les could change a thing or two with his offensive gameplan

Well, back in MLK's day, the interstate system wasn't blocked for starters...

And "frick the Police" wasn't the chant of choice.

He truly was about doing it in a peaceful but I waiving manner--and he did succeed a bit.

Has progress not been made? I don't think it's really fair to judge the many by the actions of a very few. Is there a problem, or has the media blown this up, and is driving society for the sake of ratings?

And frankly, who is the face of these protests? Does it really have a leader? I don't ask to be a dick, I truly don't know.

That is kinda my point--there is no real leader...anywhere. If there were a MLK type around today, would it be a little better (not totally fixed, but at least heading in the right direction)?

All the current "leaders" and their supporters are Racists. Plain and simple. Why it won't change.

City streets there...which we still have. Not the interstate system.

...and that pic looks like there is a solid leader leading the march--a march with a purpose--not just a disorganized clusterfrick with no true goal...which is the question I am asking...if there were true leadership, would the protests be different today?

That sure looks wider than I-70, and I bet more people were under the threat of being attacked by police then too. I recall video of dogs being released on protesters, and water hoses turned on them as well (not to mention the backlash from the general public).

Someone has to be organizing the protests.

I have a rhetorical question. If there was a Dr MLK type running the BLM movement, would you march with them? Do you think a problem exists in our society which needs to be corrected?

Look at that picture--the people, the flags, the leader, the unity...those people stood for something and were fighting with a purpose and and had a goal to achieve (while they may have never reached it, they sure did make a little progress).

Oh, I'm not arguing that. I'd also say they made a lot more than a little progress. I'd also argue that (at least in my case) there's a lot more room for improvement than I had previously thought.

I'm fascinated by the topic, but we probably should be on the OTB.

As I stated in an earlier post on another thread on the O-T...

It really is a sad situation that has been evolving for 150+ years.

There is really only one color in this country and really, the world--Green.

We live in a world of haves and have nots, and this is really nothing new. It's been that way since the beginning of civilization.

I also stated that I believe that we may be at the point of no return now, as the general masses of most races in the U.S (white/black/Latino) (and many other countries), is quite ignorant, borderline stupid, and that can't be fixed.

I wish I had the answers...but I don't. Having a plan for unity is a small part of the solution--implementation is a huge part.

That's a pretty good summation for a classist vs racist argument

I've been living in a bubble, and really didn't things were getting this bad. At the end of the day, I don't know if things are really that bad, or if they're just a political smoke screen to keep people from paying attention to other things which are occurring
Unfortunately though, things do appear to be getting worse, and for lack of a better term - we're not acting like one nation, under God.
