Vol fans get all tight in the breeches about the thought of landing Gruden. Would he be great college HC though? There are those who think that his skill set might not translate to the college game. He doesn't have much experience on the recruiting trail. He might have to simplify his play book as well due to the lack of practice time as compared to the NFL. For the record I think he would do alright.

I've been wondering why he's such a sure thing.

His lack of recruiting wouldn't matter, kids would be lining up to play for Gruden.

Not sure but it would be interesting. I am a Bucs fan and never thought he was great there. Took over a stacked team and matched up in the super bowl with a team he coached which had to make it easier to call a game against them.

He'd be good IMO but it'll be interesting to see how he'd handle recruiting and all the bullshite red tape that goes with it.

I think he would be very competent. I'm not proclaiming he would make a dynasty by any means, but he is literally light years ahead of Dooley. I will say that he will potentially be a force on the recruiting trail and that he will generate a buzz around UT football like never seen before. Regardless of wins and losses, if this is true, the SEC just got a lot more exciting.

He didn't do all that great in Tampa

yes he walked into a loaded team and won

but after that, the "rebuild" was brutal and not well done

He's never recruited that I know of and UT needs a national guy

He certainly has a name but if LSU needed a coach and he was the first choice I would be disappointed

Initial surge? Yes. Over the long haul he would be out-worked in the SEC. He's never developed young players either.

Jon Gruden Famous Michael Vick Speech

Gruden has a lot of personality. He has a Super Bowl Ring. Every recruits out there watched Monday Night Football. compared to boring coaches he'll be a super star to kids.

Now that takes care of recruiting, he's a great X's and O's coach too.

Was he that great in the NFL? I don't know his record. I know he won a SB his first year in TampaBay but other than that not really that great. And if he was great, why has he been out of coaching for so long?

His patience and tolerance for stupid young kids would prove too difficult for him to overcome.

Recruiting would likely be his biggest asset.

I think he would do well, but there are no sure things.

Would be really interested to see how his offense adapts to the college game.
