You should care because SPORTS is being used for all of this.

SEC included.

If you keep burying your head, at some point they will bury you completely over SOCIALISM. This isn't a race issue. It's a tactic used by socialists and they are creating a major divide.

The land where Clemson now sits belonged to John C. Calhoun. He left it to his daughter, who was married to Thomas Green Clemson. He died in 1888 and the university was founded in 1889. And if you knew anything about the history of South Carolina, you would know that its founding only passed by 1 vote in the General Assembly, specifically because of the influence of the Tillman faction. Just one year later, Ben Tillmam would be elected governor of SC. This faction's influence decreased in later years, so it's safe to say had Calhoun not bequeathed the land to his daughter and son-in-law, the likelihood of Clemson existing today would be small.

All that is neither here nor there. Calhoun, then Tillman will be thrown under the bus to save the Clemson name. That won't be enough to save it though. Harvey Gant will probably end up with his name on the school.

You nailed it! Most of those crying racism and simply leveraging for power and more power! How can anyone that has been given do much privilege cry racism?

Black privilege is a real thing.

I'm all for anything that hurts Clemson's program and their recruiting in Georgia.

We should be reminded of their racist past as much as humanly possible.

Everyone's beef is with the NFL, NOT the NCAA.

It's the NFL's collective bargaining agreement that keeps elite players in school for 3 years. The NCAA has zero control of that agreement.

That is the argument of a jealous playa hatin' a-hole

The NFL is immaterial to this discussion, the Top65-70 FB playing colleges generate Billions each season, the players in College generate that money on the College Level, therefore they deserve more than just the base scholly, the NFL has nothing to do with the Billions that the Top70 schools gross in college

If you want it your way, then treat the Coaches the same as the players, CAP THEIR PAY, and then tell them if they want more money then go to the NFL

If you tell it to the players, tell it to the coaches

Should the Gamecocks consider renaming their mascot who is named after Thomas Sumter “The Carolina Gamecock”?

All of that is even more reason to remove the name. With the current momentum that BLM has I can see it happening very soon.

What about the Clemson name itself?

Coming from a Confederate Officer and slave owner.

You would have no problem with the name change in that instance or only in the other ones?

In my previous post I was referring to Tillman. From everything we know he was an awful dude. The building was named Old Main until sometime in the 1900s. Name it back to that. I don’t care what they name the honors college. The town name of Calhoun existed before there was a town of Clemson in the 1900s. No one seems to miss that. I don’t think it was a huge deal. No, I don’t think Clemson University should be renamed. Just as you would not want The Carolina Gamecock to be removed as a mascot. It’s impossible to make everyone happy. I’m not sure where it stops. Rename anything Washington and Jefferson because they owned slaves?

I'm beginning to see why Nuk was traded to the Cards. Looks like he got into Watson's head.

I didn't see either of them defending their Coach who had a tremendous impact n being where they are now. Cherry-picking your causes seems very selfish.

He's had problems with Clemson for a while now (Hopkins). He used to say it was because he felt disrespected while he was there having to be the second guy behind Watkins and didn't think he got the ball enough I guess. Then he tried to say it was a paying the players issue and how they were exploited, now this

Good observation. I actually recall him being pissed because he wasn't permitted a press conference to announce his departure to the NFL.
