Maybe Slive should have a beer summit with Chizik and Saban or better yet - Lowder and Bryant Jr.

I hate to defend AU and would love to see them get nailed but some of what his mother has been saying might be the truth.

Jeffery Robinson an gravedigger was shot and killed in a botch drug raid in Memphis. They actually shot him at the cemetary where he worked and lived. So yes as some have said he died on the job. This took place in 2002 and lawsuit was filed against the city.

LINK

In 2005 the city paid out and settled the estate of Jeffery Robinson. Tina Tabor Wordlow(Jovon's mother) received over 350k from the court, which she may have put some in an account for Jovon for later. Jovon is also mentioned in the court document but using his mother's maiden name Tabor. His real father amd mother were never married. Assuming at some point he took his real father's name.

Again hate that this is out there and to ruin the party in here. Still will be interesting to find out why the GC did the grade change.

350,000 doesn't usually last 7 years.

Even if they had only spent 50,000 a year it would be gone by now.

Not defending them but the court could have required since he was named in the suit for a certian amount of money be put in a trust that he could not touch until he was 18. And yes I agree they would let that sit in a bank for 7 years.

If the settlement was for him, I would be surprised if they didn't put some of the money away for him.

ITAT. Seems some people think that Alabama is responsible for the grade changes just to get AU in trouble.

quote:

I don't know why you guys are blaming bama for the Robinson mess this seems like a UTee sting operation, a little pay back against Trooper. I mean Tennstud is NO friend of Bama's.
quote:

tenndud is an extra layer between the updykes. He got played as well. War Eagle
Alabama paying one of their worse enemies.
quote:

It's updykes all the way down!
quote:

Lots of desperate folks in knoxville these days. But you guys take the cake-- suits, Chargers, Yukons, computers, grades changed, funneling players through high schools, houses for jobless/single moms. There's more but i'm tired.
quote:

You left off fishing trips, merchandise signing and hanging out with old men who had no idea they were football players.
quote:

bammer is the one with a team full of players driving expensive cars with custom plates!
quote:

Selling thousands of books, and not getting called out for it. Ball St took the sword for bammer.
This one is confusing. Bama served 3 years probation for textbooks.
quote:

People of this board blame bammer for everything.
quote:

How did anyone know the grades were changed? College recruiters have access to a student athletes transcripts during the recruiting process. When were the grades changed? National signing day is the first Wednesday in February. The last day of high school is usually in the following May. Grades are given, and eligibility is determined, immediately prior to the last day of school. Rest assured that in this, and any other similar instance, the grades were changed well after national signing day.
It goes on and on. If anything bad happens to AU, they blame Alabama.

I doubt Jovon was paid to go to Auburn, they may have had his grades changed to make him eligible, but it would be hard to prove.

It might not be that hard because TN passed a new law in 2011 that would make it a felony for the GC to do so. If AU was behind it I doubt someone would be willing to go to jail to save Trooper. Because TN authorities will be investigating this as well. So this posted by a UT mod because of issues with runners/handlers in TN.

This is the specific law that could apply to the guidance counselor IF he got $ to do this that can be traced to AU:

49-7-2143. Disclosure requirements.

(a) Any person who, in this state, knowingly influences, or attempts to influence, any student athlete to accept an athletic scholarship that is offered by a higher education institution from which such person receives any compensation or any other thing of value shall provide a written disclosure of such person's relationship with the higher education institution to the student athlete concurrently with initially making such influence or attempt to influence. Any person who is required to disclose a relationship with a higher education institution to a student athlete pursuant to this subsection (a) shall also provide, within forty-eight (48) hours of providing the written disclosure to the student athlete, a written disclosure of such relationship to the student athlete's parent or legal guardian, the secretary of state, and to the athletic director, president and the general counsel of the higher education institution from which such person has influenced or attempted to influence the student athlete to accept an athletic scholarship.

(b) This section shall not apply to any person who is an employee of the higher education institution for which such person influences or attempts to influence a student athlete to accept an athletic scholarship.

(c) Failure to provide a written disclosure as required by subsection (a) is a Class E felony punishable by a fine of no more than twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) or confinement for no less than one (1) year nor more than six (6) years, or both.

(d) In addition to the criminal penalty provided in subsection (c), the secretary of state may assess a civil penalty pursuant to § 49-7-2138. Any hearing on the imposition of any fine pursuant to this section shall be in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act, compiled in title 4, chapter 5.

NCAA is looking into if the counselor received any money for the grade change. If so, there will be some real legal problems because of a recently passed Alabama law.

This is also being reported on VolNation.

Did the counselor go to Auburn or is that just a rumor?

And is the rumor true that a lot of schools had backed off of recruiting him because they knew he wouldn't make grades? I wonder how different the grades were, and how much of a paper trail he had with progress reports, etc. I mean, if he was getting 40's on tests and ended up with a D in a class, it would be hard to prove he didn't know. Would the schools recruiting him have access to those types of things? How much of a burden do they have to investigate inconsistencies?

I don't know how any of that stuff works.

The one counselor that is rumored to be if she is the one that was on the school webite earlier today and is now gone is an Ole Miss alum. Maybe they mad AU is in Memphis.

And yes most schools backed off for grade concerns.

That's true. Alabama was one of the schools that backed off.

As for the rest of your post, I'm not sure either

The counselor has admitted to a falsified transcript, now that means trouble with SACS. There is pressure on the counselor for reason to change grades, who encouraged it and what did the counselor get for doing it? This started Tuesday but it only broke today. What did they find out between Tuesday and this morning? We will find out in the next several weeks.
