And not every former coach/player makes a good announcer contrary to ESPN's beliefs. There are some terrible women announcers but I can think of several men who are slit-your-wrist worthy.

I find him totally endearing. He's the perfect foil to Danielson's seriousness. I can see how people get uptight listening to him, but I am amused by people who take announcers so seriously.
They remind me of the announcers in the movie Best In Show.

People criticize Verne, but he has a distinct voice, and I actually enjoy hearing him screw names up. I have a thing for bad commentary though. I find it amusing.

I love how he forgets himself sometimes too. Even if he's clearly being a homer for another team, it's funny hearing his unbridled responses.

I know. It's also funny to hear his tone of disappointment when he realizes he's goofed again. You can tell inside he's thinking "dammit I did it again!!!"
