I think we need to address what makes up a rivalry.

I dont understand the LSU v OM rivalry anymore. Ya, i get it at one point, but LSU usually beat them (yes i have seen the past 2 years). I jsut dont get that "rivalry". It is usually just a W for LSU.

I define rivalry as close competition between 2 individuals/teams that last for a prolonged period due to its compeitiveness. ie I think LSU-ARK are becoming rivals because the recent games have ben fatastic, and nearly equally split

Both teams have to be comepeting for something for it to be considered a rivalry. Florida and Tennessee have not met that many times, but they were fighting for the SEC East most all of the 90s, creating a rivalry. That's rarely been the case for the LSU/Arkansas series.

as an Arkansas fan, i dont really care about Auburn either.

Auburn fans remind of a bully who constantly talks crap about a kid, then when the kid beats him up (after already having done so previously), shuts up until they can find something else to talk about.

so because they're hasn't been much competition recently would you say OSU v. Michigan isn't a big rivalry anymore? What about UF v. Florida State?

IMO, a rivalry is defined by history and tradition

I never realized that rivalry had gotten so bad, that Florida was just playing itself.

Michigan v OSU is hardly a rivalry these days...it is a beat down.

UF v Florida State (im assuming thats what you meant) isnt too good a rivalry either.

I guess I should have mentioned, that rivalries cant go on hiatus for awhile.

If this were the case, no new rivalries would ever be made, and that be a sad day in NCAA football

In the last ten years:

- they spoiled our chance at a NC (2006...we lost to UF in the SECCG anyway, but it put them in the BCS and knocked us out)

- we spoiled ther chance at a nc (kind of, the actually back-doored their way in but at gametime everyone thought we did as we gave them their second loss)

- we won the west twice with last second wins over them, and cost them the west

It's been pretty competitive with plenty on the line. I don't think it's a rivalry per say, but it's a great series that is developing in intensity.

Arkansas was not going to play for a national title in 2006. Had they even beat LSU and Florida, it would have been USC or Michigan getting in.

2002 was by default. Alabama blew out both Arkansas and LSU, but was not eligible to go.

I agree with the NC implications. But LSU still stopped us from going to our first BCS game.

Under the circumstances provided though, the game will still paramount.

I really think the LSU-Ark games are getting so much better. I like it being close. I look forward to it each year.

That's a crock of shite.

We would have definitely had a shot. Lost the first game of the year, and then after that we would have won 9 straight in the #1 ranked conference. We were ranked 4th when we lost to LSU, so it's not like we were way down in the rankings. I think you forget all the hype that team was getting. I specifically remember Rome doing a whole segment on how we were a national title contender. DMac and Felix made that team very sexy.

So? The point is there was still something on the line when Arkansas/LSU played.

That is true, and even though USC rolled us, I believe they lost to UCLA or someone to give them two losses what would have been our one if we beat LSU and Florida.

There was only 1 "if" in that sentence.

It's pretty obvious that we would have at least gone to a BCS game if we beat LSU that year.

I think it means more to Arkansas fans than LSU fans since we don't play texass any more... But I think most Arkansas fans still see texass as our true hated team.(i.e. when texass loses it's a good day, when we beat texass it's a great day)

Its not that big in my eyes, and I was raised in North LA. Half my graduating high school class was from ARK.

The more I am on this site the more I am beginning to think it's a rivalry.

Unfortunately switching conferences, while being a good thing, has really diminished a lot of our rivalries. We don't play Texas every year anymore and we just started the series with A&M again. We havn't been consistently competing for conference titles in the SEC as we were in the SWC, so the huge rivalries have yet to form.

Arkansas with Petrino and Mallet is a program on the rise. If LSU keeps Miles around they will be praying for a chance to lose in the Capital One Bowl 3 years from now. That should turn it into more of a rivalry.
