You guys keep saying last minute. Last minute from what? The season just ended.
Posted on 1/11/24 at 2:05 pm to Rohan Gravy
this was planned imo..
1) rumors all over the place, sure some were a joke, but there were about 10x as many as usual this year
2) Holman Wiggins taking A&M job as WR coach over a week ago then Steele retiring
3) Buying a $20 million house in Florida last summer
4) the conversation with Kirby at the SEC CG
I think the writing has been on the wall.. whoever they do hire was likely already done a while ago.. it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet since he announced..
Just my two cents, but this wasn’t out of left field..

The PTB likely have known since August, or at the very least knew there was a possibility of this being his last year.

Not sure what the point of this thread is.
He could walk away from the program at halftime of a game and still be Goat.
Yes
Will always be the GOAT
I’m sorry you can’t understand the point of the thread
I would have thought he would have informed bama so they could search and hire a proper replacement
I hope and pray there are no health issues with him or his family.
If not
Then this IS a cluster frick by bama

I bet it was not last minute. I would be willing to be at least the AD new before the season.
Then why go through the process of setting interviews, holding the interviews, making other decisions, and actively participating in meetings up to an hour or so before the announcement? It has been reported that no one in the building knew what was going down at that 4pm team meeting. Maybe the higher ups did and just sat on it, but I don't really buy that, especially with letting how his last day as coach played out get out like that.
It just has an odd feel to it.

When was he supposed to announce his retirement? The minute after the rose bowl loss?
It’s been about a week - geez.

I think he received news that was not great and made the decision to leave. He was interviewing assistant coaches yesterday!

Not announce
Letting the powers to be know you help in the transition
Maybe it was a last minute decision???

I’m really hoping it’s not health reasons. Look, the dude terrorized LSU fans for almost 2 decades, and I hated that little man like crazy. But he deserves to have a happy, healthy retirement with his family. God speed Nick. Wish you the best.
Agree 100% and I don’t know any LSU fans who feel differently.

It's been 24 hours. What the heck are you talking about?

If you take Saban at his word, he was working all morning, interviewing coaches for open positions, because he had literally not made up his mind. These are his exact words, in this context : "it was 5 minutes before my 4:00 meeting with the players, I was sitting there at my desk, & I had not decided which speech to give to the players." He obviously had not made up his mind even at that point in time. He also added that he was not going to get in a position, re recruiting, where he was lying to recruits about how long he would be coaching. "At 72 years old, I am tired & can not work like I used to coach."

There’s a finite number of top 5 HC coaches in the country
That number is 5
If no health issues
And the powers to be knew
I would have thought the mighty bama was smart enough to have their next guy in their pocket
Guess not
