Why would a coach walk away from a lifetime contract paying him in excess of 8 mil yearly?

And a 33 million dollar buyout? Something doesn't make sense here, And I suspect there's a lot more to the story then we're being told... This feels like a well thought out strategic manuver.

Probably not very fun to be hated by everyone at your work and town.

Cal lost fan support a while ago and apparently lost boo$ter support with threats that the NIL funds will dry up.

When your Dollar tree NIL budget handcuffs you to the point that you cant compete on even ground with other schools it would be frustrating. We traded a coach for a legend

I believe Arkansas reached out to Cal, Cal informs KY administration of the contact, and his list of demands to stay...probably related to NIL money... This situation remains very fluid ... I think Cal has realized he needs NIL money to compete for the older, more experienced players in today's market

I don’t believe uk have a small budget. But if they do, it doesn’t affect their recruiting. Uk has been top 3 in recruiting for the past several years. With a couple of #1 classes

True. Why stay somewhere that expects greatness when you can get paid simply to coast into retirement.

Writing was on the wall. Leave UK and get more money to be meh at Arkansas or stay another year and get fired at UK.

This is like when old people move to Florida for retirement, except he's getting paid for a few more years.

Cal gets top talent at UK though, he turns our #1 classes regularly.

Ky also has some strict standard for accepting transfers. Cal wanted some assurrances that he could get transfers accepted in a timely manner

For a $33 million buyout I think I could tough it out. I wouldn’t care if they liked me or not. In fact I’d probably prefer they didn’t. I’d be fine with then giving me a pink slip. I’d just tell then to back up the Brinks truck and start loading it up.
