CFB would make more money and have better games with an 8 team playoff.
It would not impede schools of teh holidays and not stretch out any longer than it already does.
This years IB was pointless for one team. With an 8 team playoff, Bama would have been fighting for that 8th spot.
There is a reason every major sporting event has a playoff...it works.
The notion that it would destroy the regualr season is rediculous. With only 8 spots, most teams with 2 losses would not make it...in some years no team with 2 losses makes it. That means that the loser of teh early UT/UF game must win out to get in...i dont think that diminishes the regular season...it makes it better.

For years I was for a playoff, but now I'm pretty much against it.
The controversy of who is the real National Champ or who gets to play in the National Championship Game is kinda fun. And if anything, the SEC gets the benefit of the doubt ('cept maybe Auburn 2004). A playoff wouldn't help the SEC at all compared to the current bowl/BCS system.
I was probably previously for the playoff because JoePa has always been for it and Penn State (my other school) has been gypped from several NC's over the years. A playoff would have at least given them the chance to earn one. But now I don't seem to care as much.

quote:A playoff makes more sense in a lot of sports, too. Having a playoff that's like 1/3 the length of the regular season seems a bit strange, too. I don't see why it needs to be more than 4 teams. That's usually good enough to include all the deserving teams.

First of all.....don't ever compare our Tigers with the Saints......second of all.....big upsets are what make playoff/tournament play so great....or let me guess you hate all Cinderella teams in March Madness too.....Most importantly if you get to the playoffs and can't beat a team with a losing record, regardless of where you play, then guess who really shouldn't be in the playoffs, YOU!!!

Secondly, I'm still pissed that the Saints were knocked out of contention by the 6-7 Seahawks
Maybe you should be pissed at the Saints.

The regular season is the playoff. Don't devalue it.
So when exactly did 2004 Auburn get eliminated from the "playoff"?

2003 when we shite the bed after being a preseason hyped team. We didn't deserve to play in the championship game over two teams that had stellar years in 2003 and then great years in 2004. They should have had the benefit of the doubt.

Because they weren't national champions.
What makes a team a national champion?
generally speaking - winning the BCS or the AP

I'm not in favor of ruining the best regular season in all of sports. Any playoff should be small. The biggest I'd want to see is 6 teams. 8 teams with no auto-bids wouldn't be the worst. A 16 team playoff sounds awful.
agree completely
I can't see an example where there were 8 teams deserving of an opportunity - but could live with 6 teams making a playoffs. 4 teams would be just fine with me too

I think this being the SEC rant we are all in agreement that the SEC is the toughest conf in the land. The last 5 bcs chamionships have proved that.
My idea, the SEC expands to 16 or 18 teams. SEC CG is the NC, and forget the rest of the teams in college football. SEC seceeds from the BCS.

This logic is so stupid I don't even know how to reply. So now the regular season and the regular season the year before count as the playoff? If anything you just proved how badly a true playoff is actually needed.

What makes a team a national champion? TCU has had back-to-back undefeated regular seasons. They have done everything that has been asked of them.
So you ahve no issue with AU celebrating a 2004 national title?

I'm certainly not calling Tulane the 1998 national champs.

As you shouldnt...i just enjoy cornering Bama fans.

If TCU claims any title, they should call it an "Annual Football Predictions" national title.

You can only say that because your biggest rival is out of state. If you didn't think that Bama gave a shite or that the Iron Bowl didn't matter, you know nothing about rivalries. They would have made shirts if they fricked up our season at the end of it just like we would have done if we could have pulled the upset on them last year.
Would bama have wanted to derail AU's chances any less if there was a playoff???? Of course not the game would have been just as heated
I'm speaking under the basis of a 8 team playoff or less. The 16 playoff is to big and will never ever happen in my opinion
