To a bar...at 1:30 AM. What other reason would one need it at that time and place that couldn't wait until morning to give him his property back? At the very least we're admitting Miller is a retard if he didn't have any questions about that.

The text message was apparently...
That is bad for Miller and Miles. Especially Miles since we know what he actually did with it. It's bad for Miller because it explicitly states that Miles wants it because he got into some kind of altercation. I'm sure Miller and his representation would claim that this could mean Miles wants it to protect himself from the other party, but IMO its also pretty spelled out that Miles wants the gun to put the other party in their place. "Fakin" implies to Miller that Miles thinks the other guy is talking shite but wont back it up, so taking it at face value it seems like Miller was basically told that they intended to use the gun to harass or assault someone else that they had beef with. They apparently don't think they can win a case based on those distinctions, especially against someone likely to be well represented. However, there is no doubt in my mind, that they would go after a nobody based on that who might show up with like a public defender.

He was returning personal property like you returning your buddy’s weed eater.

Imagining a world where Miller doesn't give Miles his gun back and Miles calls the cops on Miller and Miller gets arrested for stealing a teammates gun.

The reason he hasnt been charged is because of who he is as is always the case when someone is or isn't charged with a crime. Actually committing a crime has very little to do with being charged with a crime in the United States. Also has very little to do with being convicted of a crime, or not....it all depends on the individuals involved from the victim to the accused to the police to the prosecutor. An actual crime or no crime is merely the point of disembarkation for the process.

At a minimum Miller should be suspended for the rest of the season.

On the "bright side" ?
Back in the day - continuing to now - Federal Law puts certain SouthEast states under different voting law regulations ... dating all the way back to Reconstruction. Because, as the laws were written, Antebellum South could not be trusted to treat a black man as fairly as a white man.
After watching the Alabama Judiciary System bend over backward to shield Brandon Miller ? I think we can consider the State of Alabama officially "not racist" - as long as the kid can handle the rock. Probably can shite-can those Post-Reconstruction voting laws.
