I wouldn't really call what Fran did at Bama really winning.
2001 - He went 6-5 then won the Indy bowl against a piss poor unranked Iowa State. Bama played no top ten teams all year and went 1-3 against ranked teams overall. I think Shula could have done just as well.
2002 - Played two top 10 teams, lost to both of them. He won the three against teams ranked #14-21 for an overall record of 3-2 against ranked teams before losing to a bad AU team at home as a double digit favorite.
Fran's overall results at bama:
0-2 against top 10 teams (typical weak bama schedule)
4-5 losing record against ranked teams
Beat up on a bunch of patsies.
Not too impressive considering Dubose left him with ample talent.

Fran totally sold out in the 2002 Iron Bowl. Curb stomped Auburn in 2001 and then mailed it in the next year before he bailed.

Yeah I know. The 2001 IB was an embarrassment for AU and an arse kicking, then 2002 was the opposite.
Point still stands, Fran didn't beat a single really good team at bama (top 10) and had a losing record against ranked teams.
I really think Shula could have done as well as Fran. Fran had a lot more to work with than Shula as well talent wise.

I will not disagree with any of this. And, am glad neither one of them is currently the head coach.

Hell, he even laid the groundwork and made the second best team in Texas a national power. But yet you hear A&M fans say he was the worst coach ever. Hmmm.

TCU has had far more recent success than has A&M, it isn't close really.

He couldn't bring Shaud Williams to A&M.

Another shitty flame brought to us by TT9

It isn't even debatable what i said about TCU.

Good god with the schedule BS from uninformed LSU fans
The cupboard when Fran got there at Bama was stockpiled and he had the talent to be successful
At A&M it wasn't nearly as stockpiled and he got way too sloppy by thinking he would be there a while (I blame this on his wife though, he could've been offered an NFL job in any other state than Tx and I don't think she'd let him take it). He understood the pressure and scrutiny and acted accordingly in Tuscaloosa and in College Station it was a rock star mentality (they stole him from the wonderful Bama an SEC school and pretty much adored him when he 1st got there)
He got sloppy

And it isn't even debatable that the point of this thread was to flame A&M.
Jesus, TT9, you're better than this.

This matters when discussing Fran. He only faced two top ten teams in his tenure at bama. Lost to both.
In addition, he had a losing record against ranked opponents. Dubose left him with lots of talent, the effects of the Stallings probation had pretty much run there course and he had favorable schedules at bama.
I still say Shula could have done just as well.

I don't care about that, but I'm tired of the scheduling BS
After Fran left and quite possibly one of the reasons Fran left is because Bama was facing a tougher and stiffer probation that was NCAA mandated so I'm sure the REC had everything to do with that
Amirite??

Yep. About why Fran left. It was a shitty cowardly move.

'Bama didn't have to play Florida under Fran. Even then, UT doesn't count because they suck now...
