SEC Football Officiating Evaluation and Accountability

Annual Evaluation Process:

Every official is evaluated in the following categories:

Prior to the start of each season, every official participates in a fitness test. Each official must meet or exceed the standards for both Stamina and Agility tests.
Each official participates in a preseason officiating clinic rules test which is scored and evaluated on the official's knowledge of NCAA football rules.
The in-season accountability process, as explained below, is used throughout the season.
A composite of weekly video evaluation grades is averaged to develop an annual video evaluation grade for each official.
The Coordinator and his Position Specialists complete a peer ranking for every official at each position.
Comprehensive evaluation by the Conference Coordinator of Officials for each official.
On Accountability:

All SEC officials are held accountable for their overall body of their work and the work of their crew, which is reviewed on a weekly and annual basis.
Every call by each official during every game is analyzed by a team of experienced position evaluators. These evaluations take place through post-game video evaluation.
These ongoing performance evaluations are used to determine game assignments, SEC Championship Game and post-season bowl assignments, compensation levels and ultimately, whether an official is invited to return for the following season.
In addition to serving as an important evaluation tool for each official and crew, this extensive review process is utilized for continuous training and education of the entire officiating roster.
During the season, officials may have their assignments altered based on in-season performance. The SEC typically will not publicly announce those decisions.

Average pay is 1-3000 per game plus travel expenses.

Average NFL referees make 12,000 to 17,000 per game Plus first class travel and expenses.

Now, when you are watching on Sunday a guy making 4-17 times more and still miss calls, you appreciate the work of the SEC referees.

I won’t bitch anymore about the calls. The bad referees get pruned out.

So, it’s beholden for the refs to make good calls.

3,000 x 12 games is 36000 for 3 months. Not a bad part time gig.

Only a Gump could think that SEC refs are okay. Everybody else realizes they are a bunch of clowns from the paint section at Ace Hardware.

SEC Officials suck and we have had way too many controversies this year. If they need to pay them NFL money to get the best so be it, the SEC is a multi billion dollar business and they can afford to pay for the best.

This is 1000% not true. The refs are all over the place. None of em know what targeting is. Some call every little thing, others nothing. If it isn't a safety or competitive issue don't throw the freaking flag.

I've seen holds called that weren't holds, holds not called they were horrible. Every single one of them needs to go to a damn targeting class together. And they need to have a ref score, like restaurants, so we'll know what kind of shite we're about to be fed.

Because all refs suck, not just ours?

I will admit we grossly underpay for the job, which is why we will never get the "best" possible candidates.
