Because the 7th or 8th best program in the SEC has a chance to win a National Championship. The 3rd best program in the Big 12 doesn't stand a chance.

By all means, stop recruiting Texas. I would have no problem with that

WVU is a top 25 program not top 50 lol. I know you are trying to get a rise, but we were ranked in top 25 even 2 of the 3 Stew years, and 7 of past 10 years, with 3 top 10 finishes.

Maybe the last few years you have had reasonable success, but as a program? You haven't won a National Title.

Programs unquestionably better than you:

In the SEC:
Bama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
LSU

In the B1G
Nebraska
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State

In the Pac 12
USC

In the ACC
FSU
Miami
Georgia Tech
Clemson

In the Big 12
OU
tu

Others
BYU
Notre Dame

Others you might find questionable, but have National Championships, so you sort of lose, but you might be in the mix for
Colorado
UCLA
Washington
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Texas A&M
TCU
Pitt
Michigan State
Minnesota
Maryland
Iowa

You're about 30th. There is no shame in that. Somewhere near Mizzou and K State.

I don't think that was his point. I think the point was LSU is only going to get better now that we can recruit texas better than we could before.

I disagree. I think his point was that LSU used to get a lot of Texas talent and it did no good. You guys seem to be doing just fine without Texas recruits right now anyway.

Considering he said this

Do we really want lots and lots of Texas recruits on the roster?

it seemed pretty obvious what his point was, unless I'm missing sarcasm or something

Recruits don't give a darn about revenue sharing.

No but recruits care about facilities, which come from revenue, which comes from revenue sharing. Recruits also like to hear they'll be playing in the best conference in the country that has more players in the NFL than any other by a long shot.

Same things were said about Arkansas. Even without what you would call success in the SEC, Arkansas and its fans are happier than they ever were. A&M will be as well, and that's really what pisses of UT fans.

Offering a recruit a chance to play football in the SEC is a lot different than offering a kid the chance to play WINNING football in the SEC.

True. But offering a chance to play in the SEC is still very significant. They have a chance to prove themselves against what is collectively the best players and group of teams in the country. If a recruit wants to go to the NFL, this is his best preparation (winning team or not).

aTm needs to let the Texas crap go as does Mizzou with Kansas. You don't play them any longer. You have bigger fish to fry now. Ignoring Texas and KU will only piss them off more. Act like they don't exist.

Wow, I'd give my left nut to pull off an upset against Texas this fall and shut these douches the frick up. Iowa State made it happen a year or two ago, so maybe there's hope

I'm sure the plethora of 1st round talent at the QB position would have been a tiny bit better than Jordan Jefferson.

Need I remind of 21-0?

Too bad Jordan Jefferson never played Texas A&M so we could find out just how bad JJ would have been against the Aggies.

Oh, wait...

Jordan Jefferson threw three touchdown passes to Terrence Toliver and ran for a score to help the No. 11 Tigers to a 41-24 victory over Texas A&M (No. 17 BCS, No. 18 AP) in the 75th Cotton Bowl Friday night.

I was actually just being sarcastic.

And demonstrating that LSU recruited Texas quite a bit long before A&M joined the SEC.

Apparently, we missed the memo that the Texas Recruiting Land Rush officially began this summer.

If anything, I would think A&M would be the one to get a recruiting advantage as they can now sell recruits on playing in the SEC. LSU has been selling that angle to kids in Dallas, Houston and all over East Texas for decades now.

And clearly we were getting a lot of recruits back in the day in some part due to the annual game we had with A&M. Recruits knew they'd get to come home every other year to play in front of friends and family. That might have helped some. But LSU was also the only SEC school located so close to the Houston metro. That will no longer be true this fall.

So I see no evidence that LSU will benefit from A&M recruiting wise joining the SEC. I'll be that five years from now, LSU won't experience any significant bump in the number of players we sign from Texas.

But just for fun, I might get off my arse and plot the last number of Texas recruits we've had over the last 25 years. I'm guessing 1988 was a high water mark.

I don't know shite about Texas, what's y'alls story as far as expectations this year, returning starters, etc?

eta: I'd pump the brakes a little bit, just noticed y'all beat BYU by one point, the same BYU that we barely lost to by a point, and considering the fact that we are on a 2 year SEC losing streak, that was one of the worst squads Ole Miss has fielded. Ever.
Don't get me wrong, I expect UT to win, and I know comparing teams in this manner doesn't always translate, but that BYU team was fricking bad.

This.

But it's okay. I didn't exactly make it obvious.

One could argue that our annual rivalry with A&M (yeah, I know we backed out after our SEC conference schedule expanded to 8 games) was in large part responsible for all those recruits we used to get from Texas. Hard to say for sure. Seems plausible.

But back then we could argue that we're in the SEC and A&M isn't. That won't be the case any more. I think LSU will have a tougher time now steering a kid from Texas to LSU and away from A&M (assuming the Aggies are recruiting the same kid). I mean, we might have to start giving kids cars (Trans A&M, anyone?)

But you'll be playing in Texas. Mizzou and Okie State for instance couldn't get any Texas kids til the Big 12, and now it makes up most of Okie State's roster, and about a third of Missouri's roster.

OU has always been able to get Texas kids in part because of winning, and in part because they have always played a team in Texas.

Defense will be the strength of the team. It should be a top 5 defense nationally. Offense will be better than last year, which was pretty bad at times. QB situation will have improved as well as OL & RB's. It'll be 2nd year in new systems on both sides of the ball so I expect a much improved team. Texas was 8-5 last year so I'm projecting 10-3 in 2012.

What about Ole Miss? I know you have a new coach, but not much else.
