It's as if geographic proximity and long history of head to head competition have something to do with sense of rivalry and fan interest.

Ding ding ding....Missouri don't get the recruiting hype, rankings hype, etc. But they do draw in viewers. Back in 2013 was in the top half of SEC for viewers(3rd or 4th). Don't know about last season.

I feel the same way. Just can't bring myself to hate Mizzou even though they've kicked us like a mutt the past few years.

I understand what you are feeling because I have felt the same way about Mizzou playing SEC teams. It is because Mizzou hasn't build up that much history with any of the SEC teams for any of the fan bases to really hate Mizzou. A&M had Manziel and plus the fan base is more like the other SEC fan bases so they have made much more of a splash. Mizzou is considered the uninvited yank when it is thought of at all. Not sure if Mizzou will ever be completely accepted, however as time goes by I am sure they will elicit more emotion from their SEC brethren. I know every year Mizzou is in the conference I find myself more invested in the Tigers beating certain teams.

They are outsiders and its not like playing conference game. Would have much rather had Clemson in the SEC than Missouri.
