This is true and often overlooked.

It all depends on the particular coach and what his desires are.

I've said before that A&M is actually probably the best all around job in the country.

You have plenty of resources, can make plenty of money, and the expectations aren't really all that high.

How about you worry about your sorry excuse for a program.

LSU will get this hire right.

Would you want to have to occupy Coach ogre's office with stains all over the carpet? Would you want to have to use the same bathroom he used?

Because it's not just about the money anymore. Anywhere in the SEC, and most of the top half of the Power 5 have tons of money, and most of these guys are already millionaires several times over anyway. Everywhere is a destination job now, financially. Money isn't going to be enough to get someone.

What a place like LSU offers is opportunity. The last 3 coaches all won a natty and two of them were idiots. The issue with getting coaches like Lincoln Riley or Dabo Sweeney to move is that they already have opportunities where they are now to win a championship.

If the money isn't a factor, and the opportunity isn't a factor, there's no reason to take the job. I really think these things are leaked out there so Woodward can get the LSU fanbase ready to hear, "We really tried to put huge money out there to get a huge hire. But those guys wouldn't come so here's this guy that we think can win here." There are lots of coaches than can win a lot of games at LSU--and maybe titles--that aren't Riley or Sweeney.

Very good post. As you noted, with the TV Money that all these P5 schools are now getting, money is is not as much a factor. Michigan State is about to pay $9.5 million to keep Mel in East Lansing. Lots of these P5 schools have money (B1G TV deal is lucrative) and Boosters. The issue for schools in other leagues outside the SEC and a few other like minded schools (OU, Texas, Ohio State, Clemson) is whether the Academic Leadership will support paying a coach what the SEC does and the non SEC schools I noted above.

I’m not the least bit concerned that LSU hasn’t hired a coach by mid-November.

Nobody knows jack shite. We will get a coach we want. We only know of one offer that has even been made, why do you assume we have made so many offers up until now when there is no sign of that whatsoever? Of course getting Lincoln Riley was going to be a stretch, but one I don’t blame Woody for going after.
