A&M should consider the Independent route. They have enough money to sustain themselves and could play Big 12 basketball.

I hate to tell you this, but A&M is most certainly not elite. In terms of total national championships in all sports, the faggies are number 8 overall while LSU is number one.
The last national championship for the faggies was in 1939 for football, and the faggies have never even been to the sec championship while Missouri has been twice.
