Graduate Equivalency Degree degree?
Redundant much? Good thing you live in such an intelligent state. May we inquire which one that is?

sickest. burn. ever. Now, does your college education tell ou that drawing broad conclusions based on informal polls involving small numbers of people is a good way to form conclusions? Because, if it does, then you should demand your money back. Now.

Tator Tots and a sweat tea is better than how a lot of family members treat each other.

Should I upgrade from the tater-tots/sweet-tea combo?
Can't let this get too costly...

That is because you are common street boog swinery. You are the Auburn fan that makes the entire fambly schtick a huge gimmick. They can't embrace you because it goes counter to the "we are a family unlike the sidewalk fanbase at Bama" gimmick.

I couldn't handle finding out Saban was my father. Unless he gives me a big allowance with the money he is making.

Yes, because actual sales numbers from an assistant manager is anecdotal. Do you Updyes EVER admit when you are wrong? I never said or implied anything in regards to other parts of the country. I can however, tell you that as a general rule, people here hate Alabama. They are simply not as popular of a team as Auburn in football. I think the kids also love wearing orange and blue as opposed to butt ugly maroon. I'd say Oregon is #1 here, Florida #2, and Auburn #3. North Carolina is definitely #1 in basketball with Kansas #2.
Where do you live? I live in Maryland and the three most popular SEC schools around here are easily Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina. I have NEVER seen someone with an Auburn cap, t-shirt, car flag, bumper sticker, or anything else representing their love and fanhood for Auburn.

Well, Doc..let me ask you this..isn't it a chicken and egg thing? Non-state named school that didn't enjoy the same success as the state named school caused AU to be more insular? So what came first? Alumni based or claiming alumni centric due to circumstances?
Neither.
The initial cause of Auburn's smaller in-state fanbase is almost exclusively due to the nature and "mission" of the respective schools.
Auburn has been the "technical" school in state since the late 19th Century or longer. Until the advent of NASA's strong presence in Huntsville in the late 1950's, the primary graduates that Auburn produced (and still produces) in the sciences and engineering mostly moved out-of-state to find jobs. Whereas Bama's grads primarily stayed home.
This still occurs today (though to a lesser extent).
Ergo, Bama dominates in-state (for this and other reasons already noted) and it is in no way unreasonable to assume that, for the same reason, Auburn has a much, much more nation-wide footprint of alumni that have spread across the country. Which is why the New York Times survey (though its methods could be questioned) could well be accurate.
QED.
