There are no real Ark state fans. Most of their alumni are hog fans that happen to go to school there for cheaper tuition or they are from our of state and dont support either.

Broyles had a reputation as a micromanager. It was a positive when it came to selecting good coaches but it was a bit much after that.

Eddie Sutton crawled to Kentucky.

John McDonnell almost left.

Lou Holtz resigned.

Nolan Richardson could have left.

Ken Hatfield in his own words left because of Broyles.

I have seen programs have coaches do much worse and still didn't get fired.

What hurt Petrino was his terrible reputation. No one liked him and they were waiting for him to slip up and fire him.

Arkansas State was able to hire Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze as head coaches and Arkansas, not so much.

It’s a lot easier, even expected, for Jonesboro St to hire up and comer coaches. It’s not the same for Arkansas. I’m sure Bama doesn’t consider coaches that UAB hires.

After Gene Stallings left maybe they should have. The Gus Bus was hired by Arky State in 2012. Wasn't that the same year you hired John L Smith to replace Petrino?

Yes and that was a mistake as he was a fool. They should have left the coaches to be in charge instead.

Either way, its weird to not keep that buy game money in state

I never understood this argument.

If the in-state schools go to other states to play games, they’re still going get paid. So what does it matter if Arkansas State gets paid a million dollars by Arkansas or by, say, Oklahoma?

For that matter, what if Oklahoma (or whoever) is willing to pay TWO million dollars for that game, but Arkansas is only going to pay a million? Would you want ASU to lose that million? Why wouldn’t you want to go TAKE someone else’s money rather than just “keeping yours in state”?

JLS was hired in April. No sitting head coach was going to leave their job for Arkansas in April.

Because Arkansas State was their stepping stone job.

Why not keep the money in your area... in which case come on down Tulsa. They have a super long history with us and are right down the road.

Yep, smith was given $800,000 to coach 1 season while a replacement could be found. He was basically an interim coach.

I see you are a hogville alum. That childish type of remark is why I left that shithole. I made a comment that folks shouldn’t disparage Danny Nutt because of his brain bleed and how would they feel if he was their brother.

I got a message that called me that childish name and said I’d be banned if I did something like that again. Piss on those nerds, I wanted no part of their cult.

Arkansas didn’t hire JL Smith to replace Petrino. He was placed as a stop gap due to the time Petrino crashed and burned. He was never meant to be anything more than a 1 season figure head

It’s also more likely local eateries and hotels make less money when in school teams play. What about the foreign state money coming in?

Eddie Sutton crawled to Kentucky.-he had to, he was too drunk to drive, bless his heart. Kentucky was mad we didn’t warn them.

John McDonnell almost left.-huh?/ I call bullshite on that one

Lou Holtz resigned.- Lou used his position to campaign for Jesse helms which ruffled feathers. Plus his recruiting wasn’t cutting it and the results showed. He got himself fired.

Nolan Richardson could have left.-Nolan wasn’t popular among the fanbase because they said he couldn’t coach, Wally hall went after him too. Frank kept him and supported him during his daughter’s illness.

Ken Hatfield in his own words left because of Broyles.- Ken won alot of games but the fans were pretty tired of the same ceiling he had. Plus they wanted to see the forward pass occasionally. Frank urged him to make changes but Ken lit a shuck instead. Frank didn’t see that coming.

No doubt Frank was a tough manager but he got results. Know doubt he had flaws but we wouldn’t be here having this conversation without him.

Can you even schedule a dlll school? They are known for academics though, that’s where the smart kids go…haha. I definitely wouldn’t schedule them in a spelling bee…
