Is this like an official policy?

I’m glad Alabama basketball brought back the early 00s road uniforms.

It's generally done, but not always.

This is the official NCAA Men's Basketball rule:
When it's different than light versus dark its because both teams agreed to the uniform change. Most of the time, teams will agree. Sometimes they won't and usually it's a technical against that team.
quote:
Section 22. Uniforms (Game Jersey and Shorts)
Art. 1. A uniform shall consist of the game shorts and game jersey. Game
shorts are the bottom portion of the uniform. Game jerseys are the top part of
the uniform.
Art. 2. Warm-ups are any pieces of clothing worn by team members that must
be removed before they become players. Warm-ups are not considered part of
the uniform.
Art. 3. The color, style and design of all teammates’ game jerseys and game
shorts shall be alike.
Art. 4. Opposing team uniforms shall be of contrasting colors. The home team
shall wear light game jerseys and game shorts, and the away team shall wear dark
game jerseys and game shorts. This rule may be altered by mutual consent of
the competing institutions as long as the color of the jersey and shorts are still
contrasting. Team uniform and game jersey colors shall be defined by the color
of the neutral zone. A perceptible majority of the game shorts shall be the color
of the neutral zone.

The NFL used to wear white at home.
Don’t remember when it changed

Hockey used to wear white at home. Switched around 2006 or something to colors at home.
I think it had to do with laundry on the road. Easier to keep colored jerseys looking clean or something. Obviously that’s not an issue now but could see back in like the 60s it was and that just stuck for a long time.
