When they do a pitching change mid-inning, why the hell do they need to warm up from the mound? Isn't that what the bullpen is for?
It's to get acclimated to the mound in front of fans, height of the mound, foot placement feel there are a lot of reasons.
When throwing the baseball every mound will have a different feel. When striding out the dirt gets moved around and it feels different.

It’s mostly just this; I can’t think of another parallel in sports.

Seventh inning stretch is a silly tradition. As was pointed out by many posters warmup in a different venue is legit.

You don’t need them. Baseball players are all headcases and the true baseball fans cry if the sport evolves or cuts out things that make the experience bloated and boring. I like it but mainly to watch the teams I care about. The NFL changes rules almost every year and nobody freaks out.
