In the NIL era, that will be the stock excuse to diminish the accomplishment of whoever ends up winning the natty that season.

It's the NIL equivalent excuse used by haters to excuse Ohio State's impressive run through this year's playoff. Pure cope.

Very similar to the Covid excuse used by haters (primarily LSU fans) trying to cope with the fact that the run the 2020 Alabama team went on was as impressive as the run the 2019 LSU team went on.

Because without NIL, 75% of their team would have went pro to get paid is my guess.

I think Bama fans were definitely very impressed.

A west coast or spread offense with an elite secondary and good run defense would destroy them

There’s only one game left on the schedule and ND doesn’t have an offense. The ND defense can give their offense problems though

Because the Buckeye NIL leaked that their total commitments were 20 million to the football team

I mean, they’ve made it no secret. I suppose divulging the amount is a recruiting ploy.

This isn’t complex. Pay for play isn’t only about the transfer portal.

Coping mechanism & a fundamental lack of understanding of what OSU actually did - which was spend a lot of money to bring the guys already on the roster back for another season.

Don't forget Day did hire an OC that was huge! Without that hired OSU wouldn't have made the playoff.

Everyone now is buying their team. This is dumb. Ohio state stomped everyone during playoffs and that’s all that matters now. Not regular season.

Not putting money in a team in this environment is like using possum as an entree for your fine dining meal.

I fully expect Ohio State to win the title, but that team is nowhere near the juggernaut it was hyped as in the pre-season or during these playoffs. And I was just pointing out how easy it would be to assemble a team that completely counters them

Obviously the media talked them up to attract casual viewers, but only the Dline/WRs/RBs and Downs play on the level of the dominant teams of the CFP era

The rest of the team is fairly pedestrian and all 3 elite teams from 2019 (LSU, Ohio State and Clemson) beat them by 2+ TD’s on a neutral field

It’s also what people say about Saban and bama in 2009. And it’s accurate.

Not really the same in my opinion. If people can raise the money to pay these kids, they could've also put up the money to upgrade facilities and hire the extra staff he did to put that machine together. It was far less expensive to do that. It's just that most aren't that good at organization.

They spent it on retaining their roster. The implications flying around are that they went out and raided other rosters. That simply isn't true.

This is correct.

Also, I believe Texas and Oregon spent more on their roster as well (which is fine). I also heard Ole MIss spend 20 million as well, which is what Ohio State spent. This is the era we live in now, either be the head of the snake or the tail.
