Most probably don't. I remember being in NYC when I was 14 and they were surprised we were wearing shoes, and they weren't joking.

I think the biggest thing is that many don't mean to be rude, it's just a difference of how they were raised. I always cringe when I hear those nasally voices say "you folks are just so nice down here".

When I went to college in NC, most of the folks were not from the mountains. They were transplants whose parents worked in Charlotte or the Tri-Cities. Lots of out-of-staters (like me), but heavily from New England.

I convinced a girl from Vermont that I lived off of one of the TWO paved roads in the state, and we managed to get running water an 'lectricity when I was 9 or 10.

So passionate was their desire to win that many times early on they would charge to fight the British without a gun. They would run up to the British soldier and YANK their gun from them. Hence the term, "Yankees". No, it's not an ignorant term. To think of the people who use it as uneducated is to misunderstand the full heritage of where the term derived.

Sorry I'm going to have to call bullshite on that unless you provide a credible link. Pretty sure the term predates the Revolution

I used to do shite like this when I lived out west. It's amazing what people will believe, especially women.

Wrong. If the passage of marijuana laws taught us anything, it's that the voting public in Oregon, Washington state and Colorado wanted the state to control the application and dispensation of marijuana. That was a bold step in changing the way that Americans viewed the archaic stance on weed. States' rights in action.

Maybe it should be considered a form of hate speech and people using it put in jail.

Because using it as a compliment means you don't know how words work?

Yankees have removed the "help thy neighbor" mindset down here in SC. They come in, build subdivisions and then complain how things aren't as good as up North.

Then after a few years, they complain about the traffic that they are causing and move on to another smaller community to destroy again.

Back in the day, you knew everyone at the grocery stores and helped each other when there were problems. Now everyone is a Yankee and the "rednecks" as they refer to many of us keep to themselves.

I've spent my fair share of time in and around New England and New York.

Let me tell you the racism up there is striking to me. I've never heard so much of the Jews live there and the blacks live there, etc growing up in Houston.

Don't get me wrong we have parts of the city that used to be the Jewish River Oaks and stuff like that. But that's not the way I grew up.

There is an inordinate amount of segregation up in the liberal Utopias.

Yankees are a different people than Southeners. It has always been that way and will continue. It is a different culture and it goes all the way back to immigrants that settled both areas. The South was settled by Scots-Irish. We are a different people. We were different when we fought the War Between the States and the different beliefs and culture still exists today. The North is blue. The South is red. The North is liberal. The South is conservative. The South is the Bible Belt. The North is more secular.

One other thing I got often up there since I come from Texas is "do you ride a horse?"

They legitimately ask that shite. I looked around Massachusetts and had never seen so many horse farms and riders in my life. I always thought how do they not see the stupidity of their question?

That is bullshite, please provide a link to that explanation.

Yeah, on the bright side though, now at least there's a story that rivals the contrivance of "war eagle"

If you had gotten your arse kicked in a Civil War then you would speak derogatorily of the victors as well.

They come in, build subdivisions and then complain how things aren't as good as up North.

Well the one thing that does is raise your property values.

As far as moving on to another community to destroy again, you guys from Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia used to come up North during the Industrial Revolution and destroy areas of Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Indianapolis when those jobs dried up in the late 1970's /early 1980's. Now you guys are getting population booms down there from Northerners and still complaining about. The South took all the jobs that these cities used to have and slimmed down the wages to where a family of four can't even live on them. And then you all have the arrogance to make fun of the "Rust Belt" cities? You are all acting like the arrogant carpetbaggers that you are firmly against. Don't fall into that trap. The Northeast & Midwest are the most segregated areas in the country because people tend to want to be with their own up there. Actually the Northerners self-segregate but in metropolitan areas they all work together. Down here, there is less segregation in residential areas but there is deep-rooted cultural clashes ( not hate ) that is more prominent out in the open.
