Why did everyone preseason predict an average Kentucky team to win the SEC?

The media is just conditioned to always pick Kentucky to win. Guess what? Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, and LSU are all better teams than Kentucky is this year and anyone that follows this isn't surprised that Kentucky got exposed tonight. For a media that pushed the "SEC is the best" narrative. It seems they didn't care to do any research to realize that this Kentucky team is going to struggle to be a top 5 team in an ever so competitive league.

Yes Duke is a great team, but there isn't a huge gap with them and other great college basketball teams. Kentucky simply was just overrated at #2. And why Duke wasn't #2 or #1 with that class blows my mind. The media is just stupid.

Habit and laziness. That's why anybody does anything, really.

Ehh, I think there might be a bigger gap between duke and others than you think. Kentucky is good and will compete for sec title. Duke might just be exceptional.

Because we typically do well so its a non-embarrassing pick?

I thought you were talking football?! Never mind. The fix happened in Football for Kentucky this year. Why not the same fix will be in Basketball?

Let's not act like UK is garbage. lol

Kentucky, a group of dominantly young guys, played horrible defense tonight against a Duke team who came out hitting literally everything. Started the game 5 for 5 from 3 point land.

Duke is a great offensive team. You can't play bad defense against them on a night they're hitting everything and expect to win.

Kentucky usually starts the year sketchy on defense due to youth, and by the end of the year they're one of the better defenses in the NCAA. Which is why UK loses regular season title some years, then ends up winning the SEC tournament and making a deep run in the NCAA.

If you paid attention to basketball instead of thinking about spring camp you would know this.

Duke is gonna be the Alabama of basketball this season. That team is serious.

But coach Calipari said in an interview the other day that the SEC is loaded this season and we’re all gonna beat up on each other.

I still think overall that the SEC will be one of the top 2/3 conferences this season.

SEC will be the best conference this season.

Duke will lose in the tournament to a team that plays good defense, because historically, if Duke doesn't have veterans, they never end up playing good defense.

Kentucky didn’t get anymore exposed tonight then Auburn will against that same Duke team in the Maui.

It’s still at least a three horse race in the SEC and Kentucky is included in that.

Kentucky will still win the SEC, but last night was disappointing to say the least.

Auburn played much better defense last night, albeit against worse competition, than UK did. We also we're able to connect from range.

I never understood why Tennessee or Auburn wasn’t picked to win the SEC. They won the conference last year and returned everybody. Kentucky will be lucky to finish top four.

This isn't an overreaction at all. Kentucky never starts slow.
