Not sure about Arky's recruiting, but I know LSU is littered with 4 stars and Arky doesn't seem to have a problem competing on the field with us.

I guess the question is, does it really matter? Petrino seems to know what/who he wants, and gets production from them on the field.

Great point. It's easy for a recruiting "expert" to see 5 star talent but how in the hell can these "experts" evaluate a player to a tenth of a percent? Are you kidding me? How can an evaluator, who probably never played football beyond high school or most certainly hasn't coached at the college level, determine that one player is a tenth of a percent better than another player and if he were, he would be a 4 star recruit?

That's laughable if you really think about it. I think last year's Arkansas class had 10-12 players that fell 1/10 of a percent short of being a 4 star. Just think how much better those players would be if they had only turned in their tapes in earlier to the recruiting services.

The # 1 overall player in the NFL draft last year, Sam Bradford, was a 3 star recruit.

As someone who grew up in STL I'm shocked to hear people say they think there's a lot of football talent in Missouri

MU locks up what talent they can and then they go to Texas for the most part

Not as many as there should be. However, there are some good ones and the St. Louis area and Missouri has been good to the Hogs over the years and we continue to get two or three players out of there every year.

Some of the more notable players to come out of Missouri to play for the Hogs include Ben Cowins, Gary Anderson, Bobby Joe Edmonds, Steve Little, and Ronnie Wingo. There are several but I just can't think of them right now.

I didn't research this but one of the radio hosts on Monday stated that 26 different players played on defense Saturday against LSU and 23 of them were underclassman. That's called building depth.

We're doing a good job of being even across all the classes now. We haven't had to burn a ton of redshirts on this years class of FR so that will help us in the future.

Off the participation chart for the LSU game we played:

SR - 15
JR - 18
SO - 16
FR - 12 of which 6 of them were RS FR

Petrino Commits - 39
Nutt commits - 22

Maybe that's why he left Auburn so quickly and never decided to come back.

He would have loved to come back. Thankfully, our administration botched it so badly it didn't happen.

I think they took a midnight plane to Louisville to try to convince Petrino to come to Auburn. People get turned down all the time.

I'm not saying AU is his dream job or anything, but he wasn't turning down Auburn to stay at Louisville.

I know this has all been posted before, but when scout did its re-ranking of Petrino's 2003 and 2004 classes, they both improved significantly.

2003: Started:48 Reranked: 9
2004: Started:54 Reranked: 14

This gives me great confidence in Petrino's evaluations.

Our Scout Rankings for the last 3 years (I know...Scout, but thats who reranked):

2009: 20
2008: 24
2007: 34

Imagine if these turn out to be as much better as those other classes were.

If you are counting Gragg, Wright, Childs, Curtis as "Nutt commits" you are an idiot.

Not only did Petrino have to re-recruit those guys to Arkansas, he had to do it AGAINST Nutt considering Nutt started recruting them again to a campus that was closer than Arkansas.

On top of that, Childs was committed but everyone knew he was going to flip to Tennessee and Wright was going to flip to TTech.

I am going off their commit date on rivals which is exactly what any opposing fan will go off of too.

I'm well versed in how it went down with them and Nutt trying to flip everyone. You would also be crazy to think that Wright, Childs and Williams would have as much production as they do with Nutt here instead of Petrino.

However, they gave their "commitment" to Nutt and never verbally decommitted from Arkansas so for the sake of arguing they are Nutt recruits in the eyes of all of the SEC besides us.

Nutt recruits who contributed this year:

Love and Williams, as noted above.
Ambrose at DE
Bequette at DE
Broadway at CB (injured)
Burton at LB
Cleveland at TE (the only remaining member of the Springdale 5)
Dominguez (Mr. False Start) at OT
Franklin at LB
Grayson at OG
Stuman at FB
Tejada, K/running Patrick Peterson out of bounds

That's 12 seniors/redshirt juniors. Not much. And, it should be re-emphasized, there is no way Mallett transfers back from Michigan if Nutt had stayed. Nor would we have signed any of those receivers --- Childs, Wright, Adams.
