I don't think the barners will accept a football program that isn't at least a top 10 team in talent.

Top-15 minimum.

Gus may have been top-10 in recruiting but the development was non-existent

We just feel if we can beat the Bamas and UGAs we shouldnt have problems with the UCFs, Minnesotas, and Jacksonville st of the world.

Gus had a good offense but Harsin is bringing a better focus on building a program. His OC and DC and much of the staff is from the SEC.

Gus had a few years out of the top 10 but not far. And he had some player development. Those defenses were for real.

Very little on the offensive side of the ball though. Little to zero QB development if not straight regression.

You're giving Gus the credit for those defenses?

If he can’t start bringing in studs, he’s never going to compete at a high level. If it’s a hype issue, that can be fixed. If he just doesn’t focus as much on recruiting, that’s a problem. Because Auburn doesn’t sell itself to targets like Boise. They are the Alabama of their conference.

This year is imperative for him to start gaining some hype. Ed O is a bafoon a lot of the time, but he knows how to create hype. Sark at Texas is having no recruiting issues. I’m not sure why Harsin is having so much trouble.

Auburn is stale atm. A bad year could bring things lower.

He hired the assistant coaches. What else is a head coach suppose to do? Gus made some good hires, it's what keeps these HCs in business.

Normally the Head Coach has say so in everyone who gets recruited, even on the defensive side. You think Saban isnt involved in the offensive side of recruiting???

Auburn is screwed for the next 10+ years in football. They are screwed geographically with having to compete against Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Clempson year in and year out for players. Auburn is probably the toughest job in the SEC at the moment.

Gus didn't touch the AU defense, at all.

I agree. He had feet of clay with his offensive schemes, always trying to evolve and morph into something else. When Kevin Steele came aboard he had the good sense to play to his defense more. That bought him more time and a lot more money.

he recruited the players dingus, Gus was a super control freak. He literally never let his coodinators do their job, hence his biggest down fall.

You think Gus chose those DC hires?

You think this is a new problem? Auburn is actually in a very sweet spot for recruiting.

41 isn’t your typical troll. I think he had a very good bead on Auburn’s issues the last few years and he’s usually spot-on.

By that I mean he’s NOT a troll making ignorant comments

Yes because Alabama, Georgia, and Clempson are at high water marks for their individual programs. Recruiting against that is tough

Auburn signed one of the best classes ever in 2020. Of course Alabama, Clemson and UGA weren’t good then.

As long as Auburn stays in the 10-15 range they will be competitive.

I know he changed his offensive approach when Kevin Steele came aboard. Up to the Nick Marshall era, it was balls to the walls, an all-out offensive sprint to the goal line. Things changed for better or worst at times but the defense was a hard row to hoe after that. That's playing to the defense. That was not done by a bunch of auburn boosters, that was Gus reinventing his offensive wheel to try to better the team for SEC play.

Ultimately, the barners decided that wasn't good enough.

Auburns a basketball school? I thought they were fishing school or something like that.

One good year out of 100 doesn’t equal basketball school.

Pearl has only made it out of the first round twice at Auburn
