Yeah... Jones could’ve been a white cam newton. Very similar skill set.

Jones was just nasty in open field... he didn’t look fast bc of his long legs, but he’d run past every DB with ease.

I hated playing Arkansas at the end of the year with him as quarterback. He was dangerous and always looked like he was running in slow motion for a long touchdown run lol. It always felt like him and Cedric cons were there forever. Houston Nutt in his early Arkansas years were a scrappy team.

I know he was from Arkansas and he was from before the rivals era but was he highly recruited and chose to go there?

I remember that ole miss game. Realized the NFL could never top college football on that night.

He had some offers from schools like Miami and the like, but only as a WR. He wanted to play QB and being from Fort Smith the Hogs had the inside track on him.

Picked Arkansas over Oklahoma.

Jones was a freak athlete. Had he been on a LSU, UGA, Auburn or UT at the time, he'd likely be Heisman trophy winner Matt Jones.

In fact, we'd likely be having hypothetical "who was the most dominant white athlete" threads between he and Tebow. Of course in the scenario, had he gone to UF, Ron Zook's teams may have fared better in spite of coaching, and Tebow could have been in Crimson handing off to Darby up the middle until Saban arrived.

From the 904, i only recognize him as a lazy wr, afraid to get hit.
me too man and right on he was damn scared of being hit. I remember a SI picture close up with him staring down the hit and dropping the pass.
