let’s not sit here and pretend Mainieri is some master tactician that knows just what buttons to push and the exact time

His 6 trips to Omaha and national title say otherwise.

Mainieri's claim is having his teams playing their best at the end of the season. That's being a tactician and pushing the right buttons.

I got Tenner over you douche.. I want to see a fifty foot tall, radioactive Serraneaux hammer raping the rant until Uncle Lew puts him to sleep.

Idk. I think that a LOT of things have to go right for us to win. Most of our arms, including some inexperienced freshmen have to have good outings. Our bats have to stay hot including against Tennessee’s best pitchers.

I think Tennessee has much more room for error

However, something just tells me this series is gonna be super close, and I have confidence in Marceaux, Hilliard, and Labas.

I’ll go Tigers in 3

Lsu is hotter right now and if they can somehow figure it out I won't be shocked, but Tennessee is a deeper team, so I lean that way. I will say this though, Tennessee has to be running out of luck by now.

He has the third best winning percentage in SEC history and a 75-44 career record in the NCAAT. That’s pretty good I think

Up until 2018 we were postseason dynamite under Maineiri, at least until Supers

Still, even with his health issues I like his experience in this situation

I really hope Gio can give us something. It'd be nice to have a .300 hitter with Super Regional experience in the lineup.

I mean if you listen to his explanation in the “game behind the game” last night that led to the balk, he knows what he’s doing. He baited Oregon into thinking we were still going for the suicide squeeze, calling it off when he saw they were trying to fake like they were holding Beloso on first and crashing before the pitch. Eventually, it was Oregon who over-played their hand and gave up the go ahead run. He may not be as engaged due to his health as he once was, but the dude knows baseball.

Tennessee has won two regional finals? News to me. This is the third trip to the NCAAT for two of LSU’s starting pitchers and will be the third road trip for them as well. They’ve been on the big stage more than anyone on Tennessee’s team has

And if you don’t think coaching experience adds any value, you’re just wrong

Being out of arms is being out coached. I don’t see how you don’t see that. That’s coaching. Everyone knows the SEC tournament means nothing if you’re already gonna be in the big tournament.

That was always the knock on DVH. He didn’t care about it cause he knew he had to look forward to the regional. This year he changed. Granted we have a pitcher that’s damn near can’t be hit.

Like everyone else has said. You have to have been there before to understand coaching this time of year.

The most talented team doesn’t always win this time of year. You have to have a coach that’s been there and knows how to navigate it. Pretty simple!

I brought this up in another thread, but I'm going to resurface it here.

It's interesting how many times I've seen "LSU is hot right now" brought up while the run that UT is on isn't discussed and is considerably more impressive.

UT is 16-5* since the month of May.

Including the final series of the regular season UT has (The last 11 games):

Wins:
- Taken the series @ USC
- Run ruled Miss State in Hoover
- Run ruled Alabama in Hoover
- Skunked Florida in Hoover
- Beat Wright State in GM 1 of Knoxville Regional
- Beat Liberty in GM 2 of Knoxville Regional
- Beat Liberty in GM 3 of Knoxville Regional

Losses:
- Game 2 in final regular season series @ USC
- Against Alabama in GM 1 of Hoover on a bizarre dick slap interference call in the 9th inning
- Against Arkansas in the SEC Tournament Championship game

UT has outscored their opponents over those 11 games a total of 69-35 with the majority of those numbers being put up in post season play against strong competition.

The bats are hot right now and the pitching staff has been playing at a high level.

UT wins a tough series and proves that LSU is getting the hype because of the name on the front of their jersey and not because of the skill level of their squad this season.

Being able to navigate a tournament format, mostly with a pitching staff, is not easy. And it’s why Mainieri has always put more emphasis on the SECT. It’s a great tool to teach your team how to play in not ideal circumstances in the NCAAT and get kids to step up and throw significant innings when they need to. It’s fairly easy to manage a staff through a regular season: get young kids practice in midweek games and throw the same three guys each weekend. You can’t always do that in the NCAAT
