Every SEC team benefits more from being in the SEC than vice versa.
Arkansas did improve the SEC in basketball in the 90s and has brought home several track NCs in addition to the basketball one.
Arkansas has made the SEC more competitive in every sport it participates in.
In our down year 2009:
5th in NCAA women's gymnastics.
2nd in NCAA Men's golf.
Final 4 of Men's baseball.
Plus Fayetteville is cooler than 9 or 10 other SEC towns.

Only because of Latitude.

Georgia Tech maybe; but how exactly would Tulane help the SEC?
Maybe Tulane and LSU could get each other in trouble like Bama, Auburn, TN and GA have. That would get that selfrighteous grin off of their face.

Actually, we are the highest SEC town, too.
Probably in more ways than one.

I like Ga Tech/Tulane
I wish the SWC was still around and South Carolina would go back to the ACC

"FSU was first choice, but Bowden wanted no part of SEC"
Not quite like that; actually their initial interest was in both AR and FSU ,in order to expand to 12 teams, and split into Divisions. Truth be told, the SEC PTB had an AR commitment well before they began courting other schools.
Maybe I can find the actual printed story that was released, but essentially what happened was, Broyles had begun inquiring about membership in the SEC back around '89...he had a strong friendship with Doug Dickey the AD at TN back then. They were actually playing golf together one weekend, and during that , began "hatching" the plans for AR to leave the SWC for the SEC.

This is true.
Odds are without Broyles' prodding and seeing the writing on the SWC wall, the SEC wouldn't have expanded as soon as it did.
You can thank Arkansas for a 12 team SEC, and for destroying the SWC.
Two birds, one stone.
frick Texas.

If you're having to compliment your gymnastics team and golf team instead of basketball and football it must be a down year for Arky.

It is a down year, like my post said.
Better than having an "up" year be being .500 in major sports, like Carolina.

I would realign like this.
Baylor and Vanderbilt go to Conference USA. They have more in common with schools like Rice, SMU, Tulane, etc.
Arkansas takes Baylor's place in the Big 12.
Georgia Tech and Clemson take Arkansas and Vandy's places in the SEC. This allows both USC and UGA to have their end of the year rivalry games be conference games.
The ACC takes Syracuse and UCONN to fill the GT and Clemson spots and divides along the natural North/South divisions.
Screw the Big East.

Your fans pimp this as some kind of accomplishment.
We still have, and will continue to, beat you more often than not in every sport.
And when we do, we won't brag about it, nor will we take out newspaper ads about it.
GTFO.

if we're doing hypothetical realignments of other conferences i'd just create the southern ivy league vandy tried to get off the ground in the 60's. vandy, duke, tulane, rice, emory (give them some sports teams while we're at it), and maybe a few decent but not great privates like SMU to round the conference out

GT qande Tulane opted out of the SEC for greener pastures. They made their bed, let them reap the benefits. No way in hell should they be allowed back in. I have elderly relatives in Atlanta who are big GT fans. They say the biggest mistake Tech made was leaving the SEC. They say Tech never established a rival in the ACC and back in the day, the Tech vs Bama game was the biggest football game in the South. I never knew this but my Bama friends say that their fight song mentions Tech. Sorry Tech, you blew it and the SEC is moving on and getting rich.

I've heard about this before....
Anyone care to enlighten me on the subject?

I was told that their fight song states Beat the Yellow Jackets.
