There is a lot of guys they could give a shot too. There is no great proven coach unless you want to spend money. Chip Kelly will be back in college soon because he sucks in the NFL. It's sad that this conference has gotten cheap on coaching salaries and it has dropped the conference like a rock.

We'd be in a bidding war with Notre Dame and Oregon, which we could win if we really wanted to, but we're not serious enough about winning.

Seriously? Butch is doing a tremendous job at Tennessee. Last year he almost beat the eventual NC Alabama. He beat two time defending SEC east champions Mizzou, a Steve Spurrier led South Carolina team and lost to Big 12 powerhouse Oklahoma in overtime.
This year, sure he had a few hiccups thanks to Turd, but he was the first coach to end the decade long losing streak to Florida (who is representing the east in the SECCG this year), destroyed ACC powerhouse Virginia Tech, he beat Kirby Smart (a defensive Einstein who won multiple titles at Bama) and fielded one of the best offenses this conference has ever seen.
What more could you possibly ask from a guy who's still cleaning up the mess that Derek Dooley made?

An unknown Jr College coach from North Dakota would be better than what you got.
