The one thing I took away from that game is dropped passes, special teams and turnovers can be the difference in a 3-pt lead turning into a 32-pt loss against the best team in the country.
We learned that the hard way.

LSU's Oregon game conditioning also played a part. LSU wore down and dominated everyone in the 2nd half through those first 13 games that season.

Offensive production was close for both teams VS bama. Thing is uga's was #1 in the SEC and LSU's wasn't thought to be nearly as good. Some people might have really underestimated the potential of the LSU "O".
The longer tigers posessed the ball the less time bama had it. Maybe if the dawgs held possession a little more they win the SEC.
LSU returns a boat load of talent to it's offense also. Plus a true OC for the first time in a number of years. Which team do you think has the better chance to improve on last year's numbers?
As for the ypc going down with more carries a RB gets. I guess it all depends if that long run was the first or last carry.

I'll bookmark this. If I notice the same topic before Game Day, then I'll bump this.
We should bump this topic after Week 2. Most teams improve after Game 1, so I'm not expecting to gain enough information from that one game. LSU's defenses these past 3 seasons have been superior to everyone but Saban's. Even if Georgia has success early, I don't think it'll translate to the LSU game because LSU's defensive talent and coaching combined are only matched by one program.

UGA wins
Then the pressure will be on for LSU. They'll have to face 2-3 more offenses that are on par with Georgia's; one of those three will be paired with a better defense than Georgia's.

It is a very safe bet that Alabama's defense will be better than yours; however, you never know...
If I were you, I might've questioned my claim regarding Alabama's offense. We know what McCarron can do, but we haven't seen this new O-line in action in a real game.

It was tongue in cheek. Alabama's offense will be fine. Lots of playmakers across the board and even with a makeshift Oline y'all should be alright up there.

The thread has been so entertaining primarily because both teams could finish 8-4 or play for the national championship.
There's no denying that both teams lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Jarvis and Ogletree were special, while Rambo, Shawn Williams, and John Jenkins were very good college players. LSU lost plenty of talent as well, 8 defensive players drafted (a school record) with all of them being in the first five rounds. With that said, both teams have some continuity on that side of the ball with above average DCs returning and some experienced talent in the cupboard.
The offenses simply have different philosophies. UGA's was more productive as a whole throughout the year, but LSU's typically did enough to get the job done.
I still say the game comes down to the intangibles: LSU's first true road game of the year, I feel that we'll be a bit more battle-tested to that point, and we basically have two weeks prior to the game to rest and game plan for LSU with an off week and a game against North Texas. These things matter.
