Saban lost 6 in his first season at Alabama.

Interesting how people try to hold Kelly to an entirely different standard despite 2022 LSU being picked to go 6-6 by many.

How many games does Kelly win in year 1 without the transfer portal, which didn’t exist in Saban’s first year at Alabama? Apples to oranges comparison.

LSU lost more talent to the portal than they brought in.

On paper at least.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you are happy about LSU being a little better than average.

I will definitely take 10-4 in the first year of a rebuild.

Lost/gained whatever. The point is the ability to turn over a roster which is usually the first step of a head coach at a new job. That used to take a couple years, now the cancers leave and you get bring in players looking for a new opportunity in one offseason.

Also they got their starting QB from the portal. That’s huge.

Don't count 8&4 out. Jimbo is sneaky.

That was, undoubtedly, the weakest SEC West in history.

Should've been Ole Miss' perfect year to win it then.

As an LSU fan, I’d have to say not LSU (based on statistics). Since 1992, the only team in the west to win back to back titles is Alabama. Until it happens to another team, I’ll go with Alabama.

LSU. Jayden Daniels is good. Alabama doesn’t have a QB.

Not Ole Miss or 4&8, but everyone else has a darkhorse chance..

Damn, just realized one of these 2 (probably both) will become the ONLY team(s) in the West to never win the division

If the defense can get out of the cellar they could be in the discussion or knock someone else out of it. But that’s a big if.

No one does. It's essentially a 3 team race

I’m thinking Bama and Saban have heard enough over the past year to rip everyone else a new one. As his career appears to be winding down, I think he runs the gauntlet this year to leave no doubts as to his place in CFB history. I can’t back this up with anything other than a gut feeling, however.

5 pages of smart football talk and no mention of Bobby Petrino. A&M is your dark horse, ironically enough that this is first season they’re being slept on in maybe a decade

What you young bucks don’t recall is not only was the west down in 98, but state won like 3 west games they would have lost if replay would have been a thing back then. It just all lined up.

But, still counts. Just like their only SEC title during WWII. Let em have it.
