On one hand, Croom was terrible, but on the other hand he was able to beat coaches and get them fired, or Croomed. Ed O was a miserable coach for Ole Miss and a victim of the Crooming, but Houston Nutt’s 2011 effort and John L. Smith’s paid vacation being the HC at Arky are the worst I’ve seen considering what they had to work with. Tyler Wilson was a really good QB until he was John L. Smith’s QB

I don't think people understand or realize how bad he was. I went on strike from MSU football because I couldn't stomach anymore of that crap. The games were atrocious to watch. From the lack of a game plan to terrible clock management it was one embarrassment after another. I finally emailed the AD after the 08 Ole Miss game and told him I'd had enough of the shite and was done. Thousands more did also and Croom was done by Saturday. I actually liked him at first and wanted him to succeed, but he made it hard. He was very arrogant in my dealings with him, and I know a few players who played for him and they all hate him. Said he talked to them like they were subhuman, and most of these are black Mississippi guys. The one's that the "black" coach was supposed to relate to and recruit. Whatever.

Ed Orgeron is was worse. Croom at least had a winning season and a bowl win. He also beat Bama twice. On a negative note, He lost to Maine and lost 3-2 to Auburn

Beating aggy doesn't guarantee job security -- it's an expectation. It's obvious that a trained monkey could beat aggy while coaching at LSU. It's just like death and taxes.

Now, losing to aggy...that's grounds for immediate termination for cause at LSU.

I agree - well I guess it depends on your personal def of worst, he was horrible but he was not supposed to even be and it was one season. Dependent upon how the current players do under Chad will determine who's worse between he and Bert.

Croom was the absolute worst.

He made some of the dumbest play calls I have ever seen during games. It still blows my mind.

2 examples:

2006 MSU @ UGA

4th Quarter State down 24-27. MSU offense was non existent under Croom but somehow we managed to score 24 points. Late in the game, ball on UGA 40 something yard line. 4th down and 12 State converts-Miracle. Next set of downs State finds itself again with 4th and long on the 30 something yard line. Punt with very little time remaining, and UGA runs out the clock easily.

2008 MSU @ Ga Tech

State getting mauled in the first quarter down 21-0. Anthony Dixon breaks a long run (maybe 60 to 70 yards) and get tackled on the 3. He is gassed. 1st and goal from the 3.

1st down: Dixon up the middle for 1 yard gain

2nd down: Dixon up middle 1 yard gain.

On second down GT is called for offsides. 2nd and 1.5 right? Hell no, declined. 3rd and 1.

3rd down: Dixon up middle stuffed for no gain.

4th down: Field goal attempt blocked.

Only game I have ever left in the first quarter.

These 2 examples paired with annual beatings from teams like Maine, Tulane, Troy, UAB , Houston etc makes a pretty strong case for Croom.
