The biggest fail part of this argument is that other than Vandy, which has no official athletic department anymore, every other school has both an endowment and an athletic association which collects monies. These things are very separate entities and are controlled by different groups. For example, the Board of Regents in the State University System controls the UGA endowment, but the athletic association is definitely not controlled by the state. "Bigwigs" tend to donate to both, but in the end, I agree with the poster that said a bigwig is not a person trying to go under the radar. They throw out big wads of cash and have things named after them. Yes, Vandy has on the whole some very wealthy alumni, but I think you would be shocked by some of the dollar figures sitting in the backwood bank accounts of students at other schools. Take a look at Thomasville, GA. It doesn't look like one of the wealthiest enclaves in America, but it is.
