I would think what I posted would make Patterson fit into this mold.

It would, i don't know about peterson though and where he'd fit.

We took second in the SEC to the national championship team and played in a BCS bowl i would say Petrino has been successful. I'm not promoting him more than any other coach though you name a successful coach and i'll tell you which category they come in.

Being able to recognize underrated prospects helps, but I don't think you can expect to be a consistent contender in the SEC without being either 1 or 3 on your list.

I'm not sure why you couldn't win, the difference between the recruits petrino brings in and the big stars is usually only in the star rating area, size and speed wise the listings are very similar. Petrino does a lot of extra work and evaluation though to find those kids.

I'll buy into that when he actually wins the SEC and has Arkansas consistently playing at a high level.

i'm still waiting to see it myself, if we are contender next year then i think the approach is working, if not then we'll need to get some better recruiters in on the staff.

and when he can actually build a defensive unit that people in this conference respect. Everyone just thinks of Arky as a Big 12 type of program (tons of offense, big arm QB & average to poor defensive play)

Agreed. I'm not trying to say Petrino sucks or anything, I'm just a little skeptical he'll consistently compete for SEC titles.

Which is why everyone was picking OSU to end the streak of losses against the SEC.

yea, i think he's one of if not the best X and O guys you can get, his recruiting isn't exactly earth shattering, we have been in the top 25 most years however i'm more curious how that 50 something ranked class turns out.

Arky really needs to beat Alabama this year to make a statement.

yes we do, in probably the worst way imaginable, hopefully we can confuse their new QB with our experienced defense. I think we will be able to move the ball on them again.

this is the way i see it. Arkansas will definitely Missouri St.,New Mexico & Troy. If y'all can go 2-1 against Alabama,aTm & Auburn before the bye things will really be moving in the right direction for that program.

pretty much the way i'm looking at it, i think we can accomplish that though, A&M lost their best players on a weak defense and Auburn lost the main cog in their offense plus they return a defense that gave up over 40 pts to our back up qb at their house. Alabama game will be the decider game again.

yea, we have been working hard on that defense, should be improving talent wise over the next few seasons. If petrino is consistently fielding a solid defense than we will be consistently in the race for the SEC.

I could easily season Arky at 7-1 going into the USCe game, with their only lose being to Alabama on the road.

yea, i could see the west being a three way tie between Arkansas, LSU, Bama. I think the battle for the boot will probably decide how the west unfolds.
