Way too shortsighted. They make the city better by giving the city more people with income. That leads to nice things coming to the city. It helps make a city become more cosmopolitan over time. Industry is a fine thing for a city to have. It's the dirty grease that keeps the cogs of good progress going.

You can send your kids to public school. You know everyone. The place is just plain prettier than Baton Rouge.

major fail. Drive all the way down highland road in BR south of campus and tell me Auburn has anything close to that. But to each their own i guess. Oxford is a shite hole IMO and I would kill myself if i had to live there more than a year.

+1

Most overrated college town in the SEC. Oxford has a huge case of Athens envy.

That's a beautiful drive through there. When I lived in Baton Rouge, I used to jog through there all the time. There and near the Lakes. Reminds me somewhat of the Oaks that line University Blvd. near the Quad and President's Mansion at Alabama.

Calhoun, you have no idea where you would rather live, because your only experience is living in
Calhoun County.

Not really a huge concern for me. We're all going to die someday.

It's a frat boy paradise, you'd love it.

Not to mention the Square tops any bar situation in Baton Rouge, minus the whole "we close at 1 am bullshite." That's what late-nights are for though.

You have it backwards. Closes at one every night but Saturday, when they close at midnight. All thanks to our Baptist friends and their blue laws.

Thanks God!

The crime rate stuff factors heavily in any quality of life ranking.

Ergo, here's some information, albeit almost 3 years old:

The rates are per 100,000 MSA residents. Violent crimes include homicide, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery. Source: 2006 Uniform Crime Reports, Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Baton Rouge: 821.1 - 24th highest

Tuscaloosa: 540.1 - 91st

Athens: 329.8 - 209th

Fayetteville: 319.3 - 217th

I'll gladly just stay right the hell where I'm at.

Yeah, which is why I'm don't go and chill over around Gardere in my free time. The fun thing about big cities is you pretty much know where the worst crime is and honestly I'm willing to live with a little crime to have more interesting things to do within my city. That generally comes with more people. The good and the bad of that you have to deal with, but generally it's a net good imo.

Thats true. I lived in Dallas for 5 years, near H.P. Still, its great to not have to worry about zip codes and such when buying a house, and its great to feel comfortable walking around all over downtown at night.

Its great to get on our city trails (which run by many apartment complexes in some areas) and not think about who got shot where, or what gang's turf you are on. Excellent public school system etc. etc.

I remember feeling myself unwind after moving back here from the city.

Hell, I invite you all to move to Fayetteville.

Except for BamaPompous.

Well, I still would love to live in Tuscaloosa again regardless of where it falls in terms of crime rate among other things. I love it there, and its a great city. Hoepfully I'll be able to move back one of these days.

Your goal last night from what I understand was to purchase drugs. You can't make a claim like that.
