So ESPN changed the rules?

It was their talking heads in 2007 that said you need to win your conference to play in the NC.

The offense was at least as good as 2009 and the defense was a bit better. 2009 special teams were clearly better.

just comparing the 09 and 11 teams I think that is right

I suspect most people will remember being disgruntled about two teams from teh SEC being in the NC game. LSU fed into the "no offense in the SEC" stereotype unfortunately... that can be something anyone traveling outside of teh SE US can expect to hear about

I will remember this team as having the best defense of all times. Before monday I would have given that honor to the Miami Defense of 2001.

UM 2001 allowed: 9.4 ppg, 270.9 yards

UA 2011 allowed: 8.2 ppg, 183.6 yards

this horse is deader than Paul Bryant but yes the same logic that was applied in 2006, 2007, and 2009 was not used in 2011... mostly IMO because Ok State doesn't have the name and voter appeal of a USC or early 2000s Miami.

If you just changed the name Alabama to Arkansas and Ok State to USC the human opinion polls would have heavily favored USC

Freaking get over it. You make the fanbase look like whiny bitches.

THE BETTER TEAM WON.

We made mistakes earlier in the year after we got to 9-0 that were covered up with our ability to flip field on defense & using special teams.

Against a team that played well on Special Teams & wouldn't let us flip the field, the pressure fell to our offense, & it completely collapsed based on the cat we had running it.

We made a huge strategic error by going back to JJ, & Alabama played one of the most basic defensive concepts in the game of Football (Cover 1 with no shifted or shaded coverages) to completely destroy our offense.

Jefferson had no clue how to run the option based on Harris pressing horizontally down the line on option plays, & instead never made his defender commit, which rendered the option completely ineffective.

He checked out of pass plays down two scores in the 4th quarter into RUNNING plays against a stacked and/or bear front (either 7+ men in the box or 5 down lineman at the LOS) at least TWICE.

Our offensive coordinator was running belly dives on 3rd & 4 to our Fullback instead of putting it into our playmakers hands.

Our idea of offensive imagination was to flex that same 280 pound non-playmaker out to wide receiver as if that's going to fool Alabama's Defense.

The bottom line is that we had to try smoke and mirrors with a limited playbook when we realized we couldn't get JJ to run the option & we we got super-scared watching him check into idiotic plays based off of his "reads" at the line.

His protection audibles & playcalls at the line were tragically stupid. Galatically stupid.

He is a horrible Quarterback. Lee may have been scared to get hit, but we could run 22 personnel & at least pray he picked up the safeties after the snap in order to push a vertical passing threat down the field and get the front un-stacked.

This was a loss based on scheme & personnel decisions. IE-we schemed around a personnel decision at QB. It completely & utterly backfired.

Les Miles now knows what the term "Loyalty to a fault," means in real life. It cost him & 85 other young men a National Title.

He wasn't debating if we got beat, moron. He simply stated a fact that Bama didn't have to play against any challenging offenses this season. Truth. Good post.

Quit making post less "post less" posts.

At the end of the day, Bama won the NT and LSU had a more impressive entire season (including all the acolades mentioned previously in this thread). I just hope LSU gets a shot at a rematch should we ever lose the conference and the champ lands the game.

It was different because the SEC has more clout than other conferences. That is something that we have collectively earned.

The 2011 Tide will be remembered them as a national championship team with one of the greatest defenses of all time. In the future, people that didn't watch this team or are too young to remember it may not realize how good this team was, but who cares? Chances are they'll be talking about another team entirely and saying the players from 2011 wouldn't be able to compete with the players from whatever year it is.

No doubt it is a very good, well coached defense. I saw it first hand from row 6 as well as in T-town Nov. 5 from row 1. I just think this talk of it being the best defense of all time is non-sense. LSU's offense was terrible under JJ. We had 12 yards at the half vs, UGA in the SECCG. I'm shocked we had 30-40 vs. Bama after one half.

But when Miles wouldn't sub in JL or ZM for JJ late in Q3 when we were down 15-0, he basically waved the white flag.
