idk, tom osborne might be #2. can make an argument for either.
25 years
3 nattys
13 conf champ
255-49-3 record
arguably the best team of all time in 95.

Still a clear #2.
He won six national championships and 13 SEC championships in 25 seasons with Alabama. He also won 232 football games.
And should have won 7. 1966 is the biggest screwjob of all time.

16-4 record against JeaLSU while at Bama. So about average for a Bama coach.

Still way ahead of these 3.
There's Saban and Bryant and then a long way down one can talk about the other 3.

Saban is the only one even in the conversation. What made Bear so incredible is he literally could have done it anywhere. He did it at UK and then he did it at A&M and then he did it at Bama. All 3 were ground up rebuilding jobs.
My Dad knew him at A&M and always talked about how he was just a God like figure. He said in all his life he never met another man who could just walk into a room, any room anywhere, and immediately people took notice and knew who was in charge. His presence made the toughest SOB melt.
It's just impossible to overstate how great Bear was.

#1
Had the CFP been in affect during his career.. he would have taken teams the playoffs in
'50 at KY, 57 at A&M, 61,62,64,65,66,71,72,73,74,75,77,78 and 79 at Bama.

It is hard to rank coaches from wildly different time periods because... they coached in wildly different time periods. Bama in the 60s and 70s was not the golden boy of college football that Alabama is today.
That goes for football teams as well. '95 Nebraska competed in a vastly different environment than 2020 Alabama or 2019 LSU. Lets not even discuss the terrifying World War II Army teams.

you have a consistently strange sexual attraction to Bear Bryant
Ask your LSU admins where my two threads went
I guess Harry Rex is not allowed to dig at LSU during LSU week

Osborne lost just about every big game he coached in until the very end of his career. That was the biggest knock on him for the majority of his tenure at Nebraska.

Yet, not a team or fan base of the era that wouldn't have provided him an open bar and a special helmet to coach them.
