We disrespected Lsu so much as a nonrival, we played them in Birmingham, Ttown, Mobile, New Orleans. We just kept them guessing.

I mean stadium capacity has no place in this discussion. Forget that LF held almost 84,000 people in the 70's when compared to the 60,000 capacity at BDS.

This is a hard question and the answer depends on who and how old you are!

I still think of UT as our main rival and AU as the most hated!

I do admit that over the last several years LSU has been the most competitive game and one we circle on the calendar each year.

To that end I think the LSU is growing into a rivalry game by vulture of its importance but the tradition is not there yet.

Construction at BDS in 88' only upped capacity to 70,123. Last time I checked 70k was less than 84k. But I suck at math

ETA: it wasn't until construction in 98' that made capacity at BDS trump Legion Field.

Bc Legion Field had a bigger capacity than BDS then. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

Wow, maybe if you stopped banging your head against the wall you would see that that is precisely MY POINT.

Legion Field held more people, therefore it was used for big games that would draw more people, LSU played most of their away games vs Alabama at Legion Field, therefore the Bama LSU game was considered a big game by Alabama.

Why would they hold the game in a bigger stadium if they didn't expect more people to show up? Why would they expect more people to show up if they didn't think it was a big game?

Why is this so hard for YOU to understand?

Legion Field HELD MORE PEOPLE

You don't say...

Did you think I was saying something different?

We didn't play in Birmingham to make it easier for visiting fans to get to.

Why didn't you point that out to AUnite who said:

UA played most of their home games at Legion Field bc it had a larger capacity than BDS and getting to Birmingham was easier than Tuscaloosa.

...?

I'M the one who said it wasn't easier to get to. I'm also the one who said that LF historically held more people than BDS.

What the frick is wrong with you Alabama people? Why are so many of you trying to argue my points for me and then disagree with me?

This place is crazy fricking weird.

Because LF was easier to get to for ALABAMA FANS.

Hell, it's STILL easier to get to for Alabama fans.

This is such a stupid thread

Let's argue semantics on what a true rival is

Alabama/LSU is a rivalry. It just isnt alabama's biggest rival. That is pretty much all that needs to be said. We will be rivals as long as we are in the same division.

We played them in Bham.

Actually you prove my point with UT-Chatt.

You didn't play them at LF until Bama started playing their big games at BDS in the 90's - except for one game, and that was the opener for the 1950 season.

You've actually got no point. You're all over the place with your argument. Bottom line, is that the "rivalry" is perceived almost exlusively by Lsu fans and a handful of young Bama fans. 6 yrs ago, all you heard was the Au/Lsu rivalry on the TR. Rivalries don't disappear and come back based on overall records or up or down periods. Bama-Lsu is a big game right now. Just enjoy it.

We played Kentucky, Southern Miss (multiple times), Arkansas St, Boston College, Mississippi State, Vandy, Louisiana Lafayette, Memphis, Ole Miss, TCU, SMU, Baylor, Virginia Tech, Duke, and Cal in Bham between 1970 and 1989.

In 15 years when one of our programs sucks. No one will care about this game. But I guarantee you the auburn and UT rivalry will still exist.

Right, because when one team sucks and the other one's good, rivals cease to be rivals. This explains why USC and UCLA don't even play each other anymore

Just to set the record straight, even though the Trojans no longer consider UCLA "rivals," they do still play each other every year. This year they play each other on November 17th at the Rose Bowl.

Maybe they haven't because they would have to also admit they can be beaten. And have been beaten. By LSU. And will be beaten again. By LSU.
