46-25-5 Bama in the overall series. Not a rivalry till one team picks it up over the next 100 years.

When LSU has won 9 of the last 13 then YES it is a rivalry to me and most Bama fans I know. And yes Bama has only lost 5 times in the state of Louisiana. I love that stat as well. But Bama has only won twice in BR since 2000. One of those was in OT. I'm nervous as hell about a game in BR particularly a night game. It will be deafening in Death Valley Saturday night.

I understand what your are saying and agree. But the reason why I stated this is because Bama fans were comparing this rivalry to Florida, which are not even close to the same.

The UF-UA game (in the past) has been like the UA-LSU games of late; its a great game with a lot on the line, but not a rivalry.

A rivalry is defined by the perspective of the current teams and their fanbases. LSU/Bama is a rivalry right now. It is not a traditional rivalry, or a historical rivalry, and it may not be a rivalry in 10 years. If it continues to be a highly significant game between the two teams it may develop into a longterm traditional rivalry like Bama/Tennessee. Same was true for Tennessee/Florida, which developed into a significant rivalry but did not sustain.

It's a big game with big implications. There's not mutual hatred. When either Bama/LSU inevitably becomes mediocre, it will become just another game on the schedule.

This is not true with Auburn or UT

Exactly this. LSU is a tremendously important game, and is probably the "biggest" game on our schedule, but that does not equal a rivalry.

Anyone who thinks LSU is a bigger rival than Tennessee must be 10 years old.

I consider this a rivalry just because of Saban.. As long as Saban is Bama's coach this game will continue to receive more attention from LSU fans than any other game on the schedule. They did crown it the Saban bowl which I'm glad they don't anymore. Without Sabam it is just two good teams playing for the west.

I don't consider Bama our rival. It seems like every SEC game we play the other team is our rival. I don't hate Bama. I hate Arky and UF.

I know ZERO Bama fans irl that'll agree with you, and I'm surrounded by them.

In the 90's and even here in the last few years we have had to face good Florida teams. They were never our rival. Why not?

Because Bama didn't play them every year.

Answer that and you have your answer regarding LSU.

Fascinating.

Maybe our definition of "rival" is different. I certainly agree that auburn and Tennessee are more hated, and losing to them is much more disappointing than losing to other teams.

But there is much more emotion around the LSU game than any other game we play outside those two, and I've heard plenty of Bama fans say that beating LSU is the most important game this year to them. To me, that makes them a rival, regardless of who else we have history playing.

I just think it's silly to try to insult them by saying "you're not our rival". However we define it, this game is very very important to both fanbases, and the national title picture. If there's a better term than "rival", we can use that.

IMO, hated is the key word there.

Emotion=/=hatred. I'm not saying its not an important game with a lot on the line.

I don't think it's insulting to tell them they're not a rival, bc (IMO) it's the truth. But just bc a game is important doesn't make it a rivalry. The MSU game last week was important for both Grinders and Bama fans, but it wasn't a rivalry game.

LSU leads Tulane 63-20-7
UGA leads Tech 58-38-5
USC leads UCLA 46-28-7
Texas leads A&M 69-37-5
Washington leads WSU 59-29-4

Since Bear Bryant's last season, that's the last 30 years, LSU and Alabama are 15-15-1, LSU is 11-4 at Bama, while Bama is 10-4-1 at LSU.

It doesn't get much closer than that.

Lsu is probably considered a rival to young fans that have only watched football for the last 10 yrs or so. To older fans, the only real rivals are Tennessee, then Auburn. That's not a knock on Lsu, and I don't understand why some Lsu fans feel they have to be accepted by Bama fans as "rivals". Lsu is and has been a quality program for over a decade now. The past 6 yrs, the Bama/Lsu game has been a big game and gotten bigger as the stakes have been raised. Accept and enjoy that it's as big a game as it is and quit worrying about the perception of if it's a rivalry.

It's probably you younger guys who don't remember how intense it was in the 80's.

Bama only won once at home vs LSU in the 80's, 1980.

Also, why, before SEC expansion in '92, were so many LSU/Bama games played in Birmingham? Isn't that where y'all played your big rivals?

No

UA played most of their home games at Legion Field bc it had a larger capacity than BDS and getting to Birmingham was easier than Tuscaloosa.

And Lsu won 0 at home that decade. Except for one yr, Lsu's wins were close games. Bama's wins were pretty large wins. I remember the 80's. Bama took a slide back against quite a few teams at times that decade. It was never considered a rivalry then. In fact, the 4 wins Lsu got that decade, equaled about 25% of their overall wins in the series at the time.

To LSU, everyone and no one is a rival. It doesn't matter to us.

Oh, so you're saying Tennessee is NOT one of Alabama's rivals?

Oh, I see, you're just dumb.

The reason you'd want to play LSU at a larger venue is because it's a big game which will draw a large crowd. Otherwise you play at your smaller stadium, like Bama did vs State.

You must be a young fan. There is a difference between rivalry and respect. Our rivals are down. We want our rivals to loose every game. Hatred runs strong 24/7 365 days a year. It doesn't matter if they are up or down. We hate them just the same. It is born of years and years of hatred.
LSU is the team in our way right now. LSU is on or near our level. We worry about this game. I know very few Bama fans that hate LSU every day. They just don't.
So.....this is NOT a rivalry. For rivalry look at GA/AU, UA/UT, UA/AU, FL/GA, UM/OSU, UM/MSU....those are some of the great rivalries.

this. our rival is whoever we're playing that week. the obsession with LSU on this board proves that.
