A QBs football intelligence. I always hear about their height, mobility, arm strength. I think intelligence, quick decision making, and accuracy trumps all these.

it's not overlooked at all. NFL scouts have these guys break down tons of plays and film for them and the wonderlic is pretty key for QBs. The fact is, good decision making only gets you so far in the NFL where you have to also have the physical talent to make all the throws

Being smart isn't that important to being drafted as an NFL QB - Vince Young

because it was thought Vince had the physical talent to make it worth taking him. It's still a consideration and to think otherwise is to ignore what goes into the draft process

That's why I said COLLEGE Qbs. In college I think intelligence, reading defenses, quick decision making, and accuracy is more important. I actually heard Montana on the radio saying that to him that the QB position is 75 percent mental, and that was in regard to the, NFL.

Exactly, Montana pretty much was accuracy and intelligence, and is consider one of the greatest of all time.

Don't sell Montana short on athleticism. He was drafted on footwork and agility. I believe Walsh used the phrase "poetry in motion."

Don't remember him being super agile, but footwork I absolutely agree with. His mechanics were great. Still, those aren't what you hear the folks talking about.

ppl base so much on physical attributes and not enough on just being a good football player... a guy that was talking to me today said ryan mallet was the best quarterback in the SEC.. his reasoning was he is six foot seven!

I caught a pass from Montana once. Just thought I'd 'throw' that out there.

Was it during a superbowl? If not, then no one cares.
Actually that is pretty cool. Did you keep the ball and get it signed?

It was a camp, but technically that still makes me elite . I have a ball and the camp t shirt, with him, Rice and a couple others on it.
edit- I came up with my deffinition of elite like this- SEC RANT: Have you ever caught a pass from Joe Montana? Yes/No. I think I come out on top. In fact, I attended two years later, and caught three from Steve Young(bonus- ALSO my second cousin[I'm Mormon though, so we're all distantly related]).
Fun fact: Steve Young gave less than a shite that we were cousins. I almost told him that I had caught passes from Joe Montana, but a deuche like that wouldn't have known who I was talking about anyways(Joe who??). frick that guy.
Christ, no spellcheck?
