if you're going to mix, you might as well buy cheap.
If you mix, you're covering up the taste anyway. Why pay a premium price for whiskey just to cover it up with a mixer?
I'm a Makers or Knob Hill guy - throw it over a few cubes and I'm set.

Really, you think Canadian Club and Crown taste the same? Crown/Coke and Jack/Coke have two different tastes. I prefer mine on the rocks, but to say that Crown and Canadian Club taste even remotely similar is one of the more stupid things I've read lately.

To each his own I guess.

Crown isn't a "premium" whiskey, neither is Jack Daniels.

Crown and Club are both Canadian blended whiskey, Jack is Tennessee whiskey, closer to Bourbon.

Turpentine and drainwater.

Si. Mixing takes all the taste notes away, which is what you age a bourbon for.

I always cringe when I see people buy a $30 of Crown to mix it. Might as well just buy the $12 fifth of Canadian Club.
Funny enough, Canadian Club is higher rated than Crown Royal. Quick story: Canadian Club has two cool stories:
1) Al Capone made most of his money by sneaking Canadian Club into Chicago during the prohibition.
2) If you look at a bottle of CClub, you will notice a crest above the second 'a' in Canadian. That is the British Royal Crest. It's one of six products outside of England, I believe, to be presented with the Royal Crest. Kind of cool.

Ehh, they taste fairly similar(most Canadian whiskeys do with the products they are made with), but you are right. They do taste different, with Canadian Club being quite a bit better.
