I dont know what the frick it is but every year we whiff on the real quality DL's. Shanks from Prattville just verbaled to FSU, they have Jernigan and very possibly Goldman. Is it the 3-4? Is it Rumph in his first year and not having the relationships with kids and coaches in the area. Shanks got snagged right out the back door, and if you don't think that's a huge loss, watch him in two years, then you can tell me how right I was. As for the Aussie, I hope he's everthing he's supposed to be, but where's the BIG talent to his right and left?

Have you cared to look at the defensive line depth? We have DEs coming out of our ears. The only real issue would be the lack of depth at NG.

I think we'll be surprised by Darren Lake. And besides, February is still 7 months away. We won't have superstar talent at end this year, but then again Deaderick and Washington weren't exactly anything special and they managed to hold the fort down. And I think Josh Chapman is going to have a really good year. hth

That sound like a douche-like comment.

I agree that we should have got Shanks, but I am not too worried about it.

I think the 3-4 is really hard to recruit for. I dont think many high schools run it because its too hard to have a solid NT

You're not going to see a 3-4 defense recruit five Top 100 defensive linemen every year. The defensive line requires a specific body to play the positions. If you're upset about the guys committed already, and those still being recruited, I don't know what to tell you.

Who says it isn't already there? The star system?

I can't stand people who swear by "stars".

You don't really need "stars" on the DLine in a 3-4. With Bama's LBers, the DLine just has to hold the fort and take up space/blockers

Well, it doesn't hurt to find a Marcell Dareus or Terrence Cody either.

The stars are what makes a player.

I agree. I'm just saying Bama doesn't NEED a star lineman every year. They can be successful with solid starters on the DL who know their roles

shouldn't be. majority of nfl playoff teams run it.

Most prospects coming out of high school aren't developed enough to run the system. It's a system that's rarely run in high school as well. This is why you see Alabama go after several JUCO DL every year. They're more physically developed. I mean, how often do you find a 330 pound NG like Darren Lake, that runs like a OLB?

Lake may be good but he's playing 2 or 3A ball, we'll see. And for everyone complaining about stars maybe I should have said the 1,2,3,4,5th best recruit at that position ,which will usually be a 5* player. We've gotton the ol, wr, rb, qb, ss, db, lb, you get my point. I just hate we didnt land the Shanks kid.

Losing out on Shanks won't really matter if Alabama closes out the 2012 DL class with Korren Kirven, Jordan Jenkins, or possibly landing Eddie Goldman. Denico Autry, Alfy Hill, and Darius Philon are still being recruited as well. Lots of tremendous talent still being looked at for 2-3 spots.

Korren Kirven

V-Tech lock from what I've heard. His parents love VT. But the rest are definitely up for grabs. Bama should close their class very well
