Is our defense really gonna be young? 7 upper classmen starters + 4 sophomores.

I'm not who posted that but I think inexperienced is more appropriate than young. 3 of the 4 starting LBs were not starters last year, and 2 of the 4 only have limited spot duty. Whoever is CB opposite baker is going to be inexperienced, and Lecounte at safety although immensely talented and with a little bit of PT under his belt still hasn't really seen a ton of game action. Whoever plays star (between Gibbs or another young dude) has likely not hardly played at all either.

I don't know your roster and who is coming back, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a true freshman or two grabbed game one starting spots, or to see one or two more become starters by mid or end season.

Then again maybe all 7 of those upperclassmen are future NFL products. Maybe. But that is a very well regarded freshman class Georgia has.

I'll be interested to see if Smart chooses to use those freshmen studs like Saban does and lets them show out on special teams first, then work them into the line on D.

It will be tough for a true freshman to start game 2 away from home.

Not impossible. But not likely. We have talented guys from the 2017 class all over the defense.

we had the luxury of doing that the last couple years because we had so many veteran upperclassmen. This year I'm not so sure we have that option, as a lot of guys are gonna have to fill in spots whether they're fully "ready" to or not.

I think '19 and onwards is where you're REALLY gonna see our uptick in recruiting pay off for the exact reason you mentioned. It's incredible to me that we have guys like Isaiah Wilson and Cade Mays that either did (IW) or likely may (CM) redshirt whereas in the past those guys would be forced to start from day 1.

@LSU is always gonna be tough, I'd say that's gotta be it.

@SCAR and Auburn are easily the two other biggest.

You will see undefeated Tigers on Homecoming, those Norvell led Tigers, y'alls next coach in two years (bookmark this).

I think Norvell is more likely to be the coach at Arkansas in the next few years than at Missouri

It is. Sec is a football conference. Some odd birds on this site don't like that and want all football talk gone for now.

The biggest game is always the next one. We are gonna get everybody's best shot as we do every year. I'd have to say auburn because they are auburn first and second they look to be our biggest challenge. The game is in tuscaloosa so that will be a weaker auburn team than u would face in auburn.

Excitement is gonna be ramped up a little more this year as for the first time since mccarron we will have a consistent passing threat but will still be a run oriented offense. Would love to see our offense resemble 2009 with a qb that can run. If we don't make tua the focus but have his abilities at hand, with the talent we have on offense, it will be the best offense Bama has had in it's history. Defense will be typical Bama defense.
